2024/25 GPL Matchday 13 Recap: Vision FC Shocks 0, Aduana Draw with Chelsea

The 2024/25 Ghana Premier League (GPL) Matchday 13 concluded with a series of thrilling encounters across different stadiums, with one final game scheduled for Sunday.

At the Nii Adjei Kraku II Sports Complex, Vision FC delivered a shock 3-2 victory over Medeama SC. The match began with Vision FC taking the lead early in the 4th minute through Joshua Rhule. Just before halftime, Frank Duku extended their advantage, making it 2-0. However, Duku had a chance to further secure the win when he was awarded a penalty in the 61st minute but missed, which allowed Medeama to capitalize. In the 67th minute, Bernardinho Tetteh pulled one back for Medeama, and just 16 minutes later, Michael Sarpong leveled the score at 2-2. Despite the equalizer, Vision FC responded with determination, and Emmanuel Kyei Baffour netted the winning goal in the 10th minute of added time, securing a dramatic victory for the home side.

At the Nsenkyire Sports Arena, defending champions FC Samartex faced Heart of Lions, where they suffered a 1-0 defeat. The match was decided by a goal from Nana Oppong, who found the back of the net in the 2nd minute, handing all three points to Heart of Lions in a tight contest.

In Sogakope, Accra Lions claimed a narrow 1-0 win over the in-form Nations FC. Lucky Nwafor was the hero for Accra Lions, scoring the match-winning goal in the 15th minute, ensuring the team secured the full points against a determined Nations FC side.

The University of Ghana Sports Stadium hosted a match between Legon Cities and Bechem United, where Bechem United emerged 2-0 victors. The Hunters opened the scoring in the 36th minute through Francis Acquah and doubled their lead in stoppage time with a second goal from Augustine Okrah, sealing the victory and further deepening Legon Cities’ struggles this season.

At the Aliu Mahama Stadium, Karela United were forced to settle for a 1-1 draw with Bibiani GoldStars. After a goalless first half, Bright Boakye gave GoldStars the lead in the 78th minute. However, Karela United made the most of a numerical advantage and managed to score a vital equalizer in stoppage time to share the points.

Nsoatreman FC were also held to a 1-1 draw at the Nana Kronmansah Park by Dreams FC. Joseph Esso opened the scoring for Dreams FC in the 19th minute, but Nsoatreman responded in the 58th minute with an equalizer from Collin Kudjoe, ensuring the spoils were shared.

At the Golden City Park, Berekum Chelsea played Aduana Stars to a goalless draw. Both sides fought hard, but neither could find the back of the net, and the match ended in a stalemate.

Basake Holy Stars earned a commanding 3-0 victory over Young Apostles at the Crosby Awuah Memorial Stadium in Anyinase. After a quiet first half, Prince Opoku opened the scoring in the 53rd minute. Issah Yakubu doubled the lead in the 61st minute, and in stoppage time, Prince Tweneboah added a third goal to secure a comprehensive win for Holy Stars.

The final match of the weekend will take place on Sunday at the Baba Yara Stadium, where Asante Kotoko will face their arch-rivals Hearts of Oak in what is always a highly anticipated clash. The match will kick off at 15:00 GMT.

Currently, the top four teams in the GPL standings are Bibiani GoldStars, Heart of Lions, Bechem United, and Nations FC. At the other end of the table, Dreams FC, Vision FC, and Legon Cities are struggling and currently find themselves in the relegation zone. With several teams still vying for position, the race for the title and the battle against relegation promises to be fierce in the coming weeks.
