Ablakwa Urges Public to Dismiss ‘UnGhanaian and Malicious Propaganda,’ Says Prof Opoku-Agyemang is Thriving

Ablakwa Assures Ghanaians of Vice President Opoku-Agyemang’s Recovery, Dismisses Health Rumors
Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has strongly refuted recent rumors regarding the health of Ghana’s Vice President, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, reassuring the public that she is in good health and will be resuming her duties shortly. This follows a wave of speculations concerning her condition after the Vice President sought medical treatment abroad following a sudden illness that occurred after her official engagements on March 28, 2025. Prior to this, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang had been treated at the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC). However, some misleading reports falsely suggested that the Vice President had passed away.
Speaking to the Ghanaian community in Lagos, Nigeria, on Sunday, April 6, 2025, Minister Ablakwa addressed the growing concerns about Prof. Opoku-Agyemang’s health. He reassured the public that the Vice President is recovering well, crediting the collective prayers of Ghanaians both within the country and across the globe for her improvement.
“There have been concerns about the state of our dear mother, the first female Vice President of the Republic of Ghana. I want to assure all of you that she is doing very well,” said Ablakwa. “Your prayers, both from Ghanaians here at home and those abroad, have truly made a difference. They have worked wonders.”
Ablakwa further emphasized that he had personally received updates from Prof. Opoku-Agyemang and could confidently confirm that she was in stable condition. “I have heard directly from her, and I know from what I’ve been told that she is recovering well,” he added.
The Foreign Minister also strongly denounced the spread of what he described as “malicious and unGhanaian propaganda” about the Vice President’s health. He encouraged Ghanaians to disregard the false reports and focus on the positive news of her recovery. Ablakwa’s remarks reflect a deep frustration over the unfounded rumors and the harmful impact they could have on both Prof. Opoku-Agyemang’s reputation and the morale of the country.
“Please, disregard all the negative and unGhanaian rumors circulating,” he stated. “These are nothing but malicious and unfounded speculations. Our Vice President is doing very well, and she will soon return to her responsibilities, continuing to serve Ghana with distinction.”
He also took the opportunity to highlight the important role Prof. Opoku-Agyemang plays as a symbol of empowerment for women and young girls across Ghana. Ablakwa emphasized that her leadership serves as an inspiration to future generations, particularly young girls, by showing them that women are just as capable as men in every field.
“Apart from being a political leader, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang’s presence is a beacon of hope for our young girls and women,” he said. “Her achievements inspire our daughters to believe that there is nothing beyond their reach. What men can do, women can also do—and do it even better.”
Ablakwa’s comments were not just a statement of reassurance about the Vice President’s health but also an affirmation of her enduring strength and the role she plays in shaping the future of the country. His remarks were aimed at calming the public and restoring focus on the important work that Prof. Opoku-Agyemang continues to do in her capacity as Vice President.
The Foreign Minister’s reassurances come at a time when rumors have the potential to create unnecessary distractions. In the face of these challenges, Ablakwa’s clear and direct statements sought to reaffirm confidence in the leadership of the Vice President, and more importantly, to remind Ghanaians of the unity and positivity that should guide their interactions, particularly during challenging times.
While the health of high-profile figures such as Prof. Opoku-Agyemang often draws intense public attention, Minister Ablakwa’s call for unity and solidarity was a reminder that the wellbeing of leaders is as important as their public roles. With Prof. Opoku-Agyemang expected to return to her duties soon, Ghanaians can look forward to her continued leadership and advocacy for women’s empowerment, as well as the progress of the nation as a whole.
In conclusion, Ablakwa’s statement reinforced the importance of focusing on facts rather than rumors, reminding citizens of the positive impact of collective prayers and support in the recovery process. With the Vice President on the mend, he assured the public that she would be back to work soon, serving Ghana and inspiring future generations.
