Volta Region to Benefit from Football ‘4’ Girls Project by GFA, VRFA, and GES

In a significant step toward boosting girls’ participation in football, the Ghana Football Association (GFA), in collaboration with the Ghana Education Service (GES) and the Volta Regional Football Association (VRFA), is set to implement the Football ‘4’ Girls initiative in the Volta Region. Scheduled to take place from Tuesday, July 22 to Thursday, July 25, 2025, the project aims to inspire and empower young girls through grassroots football.
The initiative aligns with the GFA’s broader Women’s Football Development Strategy, which seeks to create equal opportunities in the sport while fostering a new generation of female footballers. The three-day engagement will involve a series of fun, skill-based activities across selected schools in Central Tongu and South Tongu districts, particularly in Adidome and Sogakope.
A Grassroots Pathway for Girls Aged 6–12
The Football ‘4’ Girls program targets girls between the ages of 6 and 12, introducing them to football in a supportive and inclusive environment. Organizers believe that early exposure to the sport can build essential skills, boost self-esteem, and encourage long-term participation.
According to the GFA’s Technical Directorate, this is more than a sporting exercise — it is a transformative effort to cultivate talent and develop role models. “By creating safe and fun spaces for girls to learn and play football, we are investing in the future of Ghanaian women’s football,” a GFA representative said.
The initiative will feature interactive sessions, including ball control drills, teamwork exercises, and mini-games, all guided by trained coaches and educators. It will also offer mentorship to help the girls develop both on and off the pitch.

Shaping the Future of Women’s Football
Organizers hope that the Football ‘4’ Girls initiative will not only ignite passion for the game but also create a pipeline of talent for local and national teams. By introducing football at the basic school level, the GFA and its partners are laying a strong foundation for the long-term growth of women’s football in Ghana.
“This program is about much more than developing athletes,” said a representative from GES. “It’s about confidence, teamwork, opportunity, and showing girls they belong in every part of society — including on the football pitch.”
As the initiative unfolds, stakeholders will monitor progress and collect insights to expand the program into other regions. With support from communities, educators, and sports officials, Football ‘4’ Girls is poised to become a cornerstone of gender-inclusive sports development in Ghana.
