Mahama Begins Official Tour of Japan and Singapore

President John Dramani Mahama has departed Accra on official visits to Japan and Singapore, aimed at advancing Ghana’s international partnerships, attracting foreign investment, and deepening bilateral relations with two of Asia’s leading economies.
The trip forms part of President Mahama’s broader strategy to promote Ghana as a key destination for trade, investment, and sustainable development. During the first leg of his tour in Japan, the President will attend the 9th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD IX), where he is scheduled to speak at a high-level plenary session under the theme: “The Economy: Promoting Trade and Investment.”
In addition to his participation at TICAD IX, President Mahama will headline the Ghana Presidential Investment Forum, an event designed to showcase investment prospects in Ghana and highlight the country’s ongoing reforms under the “Resetting Ghana” agenda.
While in Tokyo, the President is expected to hold strategic bilateral meetings with top Japanese officials and institutions. These include discussions with Japan’s Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, as well as senior executives from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Japan External Trade Organisation (JETRO). Talks will focus on fostering cooperation in areas such as trade, infrastructure development, investment, and technology transfer.
Following his engagements in Japan, President Mahama will proceed to Singapore for the second phase of his visit, where he will spend three days holding high-level meetings with government and business leaders.
His schedule in Singapore features a courtesy call on President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, a meeting with Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, and participation in the Africa-Singapore Business Forum. He will also deliver an address at a Ghana Investment Forum in Singapore, where he will outline Ghana’s economic reform programme and encourage Singaporean businesses to explore opportunities in sectors such as finance, technology, infrastructure, and human capital development.
The overall aim of the trip is to boost Ghana’s visibility as a competitive and stable economy in Africa, strengthen diplomatic relations, and forge mutually beneficial partnerships that support Ghana’s long-term growth.
President Mahama and his delegation departed Accra on Sunday, August 17, 2025.
