NPP Reinstates Suspended Members Through Amnesty

Danquah Smith Buttey

In a bid to strengthen internal cohesion and promote reconciliation, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced a general amnesty for all members who have been suspended or are currently undergoing disciplinary actions.

A statement issued on August 16, 2025, and signed by acting National Chairman Danquah Smith Buttey, revealed that the decision was taken during an Emergency National Council meeting held on July 25, 2025. The directive nullifies all existing suspensions and halts any ongoing disciplinary processes against affected members.

According to the party, this amnesty is part of a broader strategy to consolidate unity ahead of upcoming political engagements. The statement underscored the importance of adhering strictly to the party’s constitution when handling any future disciplinary matters, emphasizing due process and procedural fairness.

Path to Reinstatement

While the amnesty covers suspended and disciplined members, individuals who have forfeited their membership must formally reapply to the national secretariat if they wish to be reinstated. Upon reinstatement, these individuals will be barred from contesting internal party elections for a mandatory two-year period.

Zero Tolerance for Arbitrary Actions

The NPP leadership also issued a strong caution to party officials at all levels, warning against the use of arbitrary suspensions. The statement reiterated that all disciplinary actions must align with the constitutional framework of the party.

“The National Secretariat expects full adherence to this directive,” the statement concluded, calling on party executives nationwide to ensure compliance as part of efforts to build a more united and focused organization.
