Afram Plains MP Commits to Transformation Through Strategic Socio-Economic Development

Nasira Afrah Gyekye, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Sekyere Afram Plains, has pledged her commitment to driving socio-economic progress in the district, highlighting her determination to address key issues such as agriculture, education, healthcare, and infrastructure. Speaking during the 68th Independence Day celebration, held under the theme “Reflect, Review, and Reset,” she emphasized that her goal is to foster meaningful growth and development in the largely rural area.
As the first female MP to represent Sekyere Afram Plains, Nasira Gyekye expressed deep gratitude to her constituents for the trust they have placed in her leadership. She also acknowledged the district’s ongoing challenges, which include water shortages, inadequate road networks, limited healthcare services, and low educational outcomes. Despite these obstacles, she remains committed to improving the lives of her constituents and working tirelessly toward change.
“Although Sekyere Afram Plains is the largest district in the Ashanti Region by land size, it remains one of the poorest, which reflects that our journey to complete independence is far from over,” she stated. Gyekye highlighted that despite the district’s vast agricultural potential, it has not yet achieved the development it deserves. She emphasized that true independence goes beyond political freedom and should include tangible improvements in the quality of life for all citizens, particularly through economic and social advancements.
One of the primary areas of focus for Nasira Gyekye is agriculture, which forms the backbone of the district’s economy. She stressed the need to modernize farming practices, improve access to markets, and invest in better infrastructure to support local farmers. “True independence for our people means improving the livelihoods of our farmers, ensuring quality education for our children, providing better healthcare, and developing our road networks and electrification,” she explained.
The MP also pointed to the importance of collaboration in addressing these challenges, assuring her constituents that she would work closely with government agencies, stakeholders, and development partners to implement sustainable solutions. “We must reassess our strategies to ensure they align with the specific needs of Sekyere Afram Plains. We need to reset our priorities to focus on sustainable growth, particularly in the agricultural and educational sectors,” she said.
Nasira Gyekye stressed that addressing these challenges will require the collective effort of all stakeholders. She called for unity and active participation from residents to achieve the district’s development goals. “I believe in the Sekyere Afram Plains dream—one where we leave behind a thriving and prosperous district for future generations. Together, we can create a better future,” she declared.
While the district is rich in agricultural potential, the lack of adequate infrastructure, healthcare, and educational facilities remains a significant barrier to development. Previous administrations have made attempts to address these issues, but much work remains to be done. Nasira Gyekye is hopeful that, with her leadership, Sekyere Afram Plains can begin to overcome these long-standing challenges and unlock its true potential.
Her election as the first female MP for the district is seen as a historic milestone, bringing new hope and a sense of inclusivity to the region. Many see her leadership as an opportunity for renewed attention on development and progress in Sekyere Afram Plains, with an emphasis on improving the lives of the most vulnerable.
As the people of Sekyere Afram Plains celebrated Ghana’s 68th Independence Day, they are looking forward to a future of prosperity under Nasira Afrah Gyekye’s leadership. The MP’s vision for the district is one of growth, empowerment, and progress, and her commitment to driving socio-economic development has resonated deeply with the people she serves. As she continues to push for improvements in agriculture, education, healthcare, and infrastructure, the district remains hopeful that, under her guidance, Sekyere Afram Plains will achieve the development it has long deserved.
