Ghanaian musician Akwaboah has recently opened up about his feelings toward a surprising change made by fellow artist Kwabena Kwabena concerning the date of his 2024 Valentine’s Day concert. The two have traditionally collaborated around Valentine’s Day, with Akwaboah performing at Kwabena Kwabena’s event on February 12th and Kwabena Kwabena returning the favor at Akwaboah’s concert on February 14th. However, the latest change, in which Kwabena Kwabena announced his own concert for February 14th, caught Akwaboah by surprise, as he had already been prepared to take the stage on the 12th.

In a candid interview with DJ Slim on Daybreak Hitz, Akwaboah shared his reaction to the change in plans. “I was kind of surprised,” Akwaboah said. “I know that his concert is always on the 12th of February, and we’ve always had this routine where I perform for him on the 12th, and he performs for me on the 14th.” However, things took an unexpected turn this year when Akwaboah received a call from Kwabena Kwabena’s team, requesting his participation for the 2024 concert. “So I agreed, and then, suddenly, I saw him post about the 14th,” he explained, feeling somewhat blindsided by the move.

The situation seemed to have complicated matters for Akwaboah, who had already planned his own Shades of Love concert for the same day, February 14th. The 2024 concert, which was initially set to be held at the Grand Arena, had to be canceled for two primary reasons: Akwaboah’s international commitments and the search for a larger venue. “There were two reasons… one was gigs outside the country, and two, I was looking for a bigger venue,” he explained, noting that while Kwabena Kwabena’s shift in date might have complicated things, the timing simply didn’t work for him. “From Kwabena’s own, I was looking for another big one (venue),” he added. As a result, he decided to go ahead and reschedule his event to a later date.

Despite feeling hurt by the change in plans, Akwaboah clarified that he harbors no ill will toward Kwabena Kwabena. “In as much as I was hurt, I didn’t have a problem with him because I’m not the only one that can do a show on that day,” he reflected. His decision to continue his musical career with an optimistic outlook on the situation illustrates his commitment to his work and his dedication to delivering for his fans, even when faced with challenges.

Akwaboah also provided some insight into his current relationship with Kwabena Kwabena. According to the Me Na Woa hitmaker, the two artists have been able to put the issue behind them. Akwaboah mentioned that they recently met at Royal Senchi, where they discussed their plans, including the future of their respective Valentine’s concerts. “It’s been cool, we met at Royal Senchi, we talked about it, and I asked if they’re doing this year, and he said yes. I was like, okay cool,” Akwaboah shared. This indicates that despite the brief tension over the concert date, the two musicians remain on amicable terms.

Looking forward, Akwaboah is gearing up for his own highly anticipated Shades of Love Concert 2025, which will take place at La Palm Beach Hotel on February 14th, 2025. The concert promises to be a special occasion for fans, with regular tickets available for 300 GHS, VIP tickets for 500 GHS, and VVIP tickets priced at 750 GHS. With his performance in 2025 set to be a major event, Akwaboah’s fans can expect a memorable experience that reflects his unwavering commitment to music and his fans, despite the unexpected turn of events earlier in the year.
