The management of Asante Kotoko SC, together with the leadership of their supporter groups, has extended an invitation to all football fans, supporter clubs, and the general public to participate in a vigil to honor their late supporter, Francis Yaw Frimpong, affectionately known as Pooley.

The vigil is scheduled to take place on Sunday, February 9, 2025, at the Baba Yara Stadium. This gathering will not only pay tribute to Pooley but will also amplify calls for justice and advocate for a safer and more responsible football environment in Ghana. It serves as an opportunity for the Kotoko community and football enthusiasts at large to come together, reflect on the tragic event, and collectively demand accountability for the senseless violence that led to Pooley’s untimely death.

Asante Kotoko and its supporters remain unwavering in their pursuit of justice for Pooley. They have urged everyone attending the vigil to bring candles, symbolizing both remembrance and unity in the fight for a fair and peaceful football culture. The event is expected to draw a large crowd of Kotoko fans and football lovers, all of whom will join in mourning and standing together in their determination for change.

Kotoko’s management has called for unity in this difficult time, emphasizing the importance of solidarity across Ghana’s football community. They stress that this event is not only a moment of remembrance but also an opportunity to rally behind the call for reforms to ensure the safety and well-being of all supporters at football matches.

Pooley’s death occurred during a violent confrontation between supporters at the Ghana Premier League match between Asante Kotoko and Nsoatreman on Sunday, February 2, 2025, at the Nana Konamansah Park. This tragic incident has raised significant concerns about the state of football-related violence in the country, with many calling for stronger measures to protect fans and promote respect among supporters.

The vigil will be a moment of reflection and action, as Kotoko and its supporters remain committed to ensuring that Pooley’s death is not in vain and that the fight for justice continues.
