“Ashanti Region Experiences 148 Fire Outbreaks in 2025”

The Ashanti Region has reported a total of 148 fire incidents from the start of January 2025 up until now.
Regional Fire Public Relations Officer, DO3 Peter Addai, attributes the rise in fire cases to factors such as climate change, public carelessness, ignorance, and resistance to fire safety practices.
In an exclusive interview with regional correspondent Sarkodie Peprah, Addai highlighted bushfires as a major threat affecting the region, followed closely by domestic fires and other types of incidents. He emphasized that many of these fires were preventable, urging people to prioritize fire prevention rather than focusing solely on managing fires after they occur. “If you check the cases of these fires, it could be something they could have prevented,” he stated, stressing the importance of awareness and precaution.
Addai further explained that the fire service will intensify its educational campaigns, particularly during the dry season when the risk of fires is higher. The campaign will focus on key preventive measures, such as proper usage of electrical sockets, installation of fire extinguishers, and the importance of smoke detectors in homes and businesses to help combat and reduce the occurrence of fire outbreaks.
