Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the Minority Leader in Ghana’s Parliament, has reaffirmed the National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) unwavering commitment to integrity, probity, and accountability in governance. In a Facebook post shared on Monday, December 16, 2024, Dr. Forson expressed deep gratitude to the Ghanaian people for their overwhelming support in the recent 2024 general elections.

Dr. Forson highlighted the NDC’s impressive electoral victory, noting that the party had secured over 50 seats, which significantly weakened the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), reducing them to a minority. However, he stressed that this achievement was not just for the NDC, but rather a powerful message from the true drivers of Ghana’s democracy—the resilient and determined people of the country.

He declared that the victory was a reflection of the trust the Ghanaian electorate had placed in the NDC and vowed that the party would not betray that trust. “We hear you, and we will not betray your trust,” Dr. Forson said. “Unlike the NPP, we will govern with integrity, probity, and accountability. We reject greed, impunity, and any form of disrespect for the rule of law. Our leadership will be one that listens to the people and works tirelessly to deliver on their needs.”

Dr. Forson’s remarks underscore the NDC’s pledge to ensure transparency, responsibility, and good governance. He assured the public that the party is committed to serving the nation by adhering to the principles of integrity and accountability in all its actions. His statements were also a reminder of the party’s stance against corruption, misuse of power, and the erosion of democratic principles, which he attributes to the current government under the NPP.

The Minority Leader’s assurance comes after the recall of Parliament for significant discussions following the December 7 general elections. This marks the first Parliament meeting after the elections, in which the NDC secured an overwhelming victory, not only in the presidential race but also in the parliamentary elections, thus positioning the party to play a key role in the country’s governance.

Dr. Forson emphasized that the NDC’s focus would be on fulfilling its campaign promises and ensuring that governance remains centered on the people’s needs. He expressed confidence that the party would effectively hold the NPP to account while promoting policies that prioritize national development, peace, and prosperity.

He also took the opportunity to acknowledge the critical role Ghanaians had played in electing the NDC, thanking them for their trust and the responsibility they had given the party to lead. The NDC’s victory, he suggested, was a clear message from the electorate that they wanted a leadership that would focus on tackling issues that directly affect them, such as economic challenges, healthcare, education, and corruption.

“We are committed to providing a government that upholds democratic values, delivers on its promises, and serves the people with respect and dignity,” Dr. Forson wrote. “The trust you have placed in us will not be taken for granted.”

Dr. Forson’s statements are not only a reaffirmation of the NDC’s core principles but also a signal to the government and all stakeholders that the party intends to lead responsibly and transparently. As the NDC prepares to take on its new political role, the Minority Leader’s words serve as a pledge to uphold the values of integrity and accountability that the party has consistently advocated for.

The NDC’s focus on accountability, transparency, and integrity resonates strongly with the people of Ghana, many of whom have expressed disillusionment with the current government’s handling of national issues. Dr. Forson’s pledge for a new leadership approach signals a shift toward ensuring that the government serves the people above all else.
