Atwima Mponua Assembly Members Urge Mahama to Appoint Sakina Oforiwaa as DCE

A total of 40 Assembly Members in the Atwima Mponua District of the Ashanti Region have formally appealed to former President John Dramani Mahama to nominate Madam Sakina Oforiwaa as the District Chief Executive (DCE), citing her qualifications, track record, and broad support base as reasons for their endorsement.
The appeal, made through a jointly signed petition, comes amid growing concerns about the leadership vacuum in the district, which the Assembly Members say has negatively impacted the coordination of development efforts and overall administrative efficiency. They argue that the lack of a substantive DCE is impeding progress and stalling much-needed initiatives that are vital for the growth of the district.
According to the petitioners, Atwima Mponua and Asante Mampong are the only two administrative areas in the Ashanti Region still awaiting DCE nominations, despite the recent nationwide rollout of appointments for Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs). Out of the 43 assemblies in the region, 41 have already had their executives nominated and, in most cases, confirmed and sworn into office.
In a petition dated May 9, 2025, and endorsed by over 30 Assembly Members and appointed officials—now totaling 40—Sakina Oforiwaa emerged as the leading candidate among three contenders vying for the role. The petition describes her as a well-respected figure within the district who possesses the leadership skills and community development experience necessary to bring meaningful change.
At a press conference, Salifu David, the Assembly Member for the Ananso Electoral Area, highlighted Madam Oforiwaa’s commitment to local development and her reputation for integrity and hard work. He noted that her efforts have gone beyond political engagements, mentioning her personal support for Assembly Members through the provision of motorbikes to aid their mobility and enhance their effectiveness in service delivery.
Describing her as a bridge-builder and a results-oriented leader, David emphasized that Madam Oforiwaa enjoys cross-sectional support and would bring unity and vision to the leadership of the district.
Backing this position, the NDC Young Cadres in the Atwima Mponua Constituency also publicly called on President Mahama to consider Oforiwaa’s nomination. According to Isaac Ampaabeng, the group’s Communications Director, Madam Oforiwaa has consistently played a motherly and unifying role within the constituency, winning the trust of both party members and non-partisan community stakeholders.
“We are urging our leader, President Mahama, to consider Sakina Oforiwaa for this critical role. Her experience, love for the people, and long-standing service to the party and community make her the right choice,” Ampaabeng stated.
A teacher by profession, Madam Oforiwaa brings with her a wealth of political and administrative experience. She previously served as an Assembly Member for the Adobewura Electoral Area and was a government appointee in 2016. From 2009 to 2016, she held key positions on the Assembly’s Finance and Administration Sub-Committee and the Social Services Sub-Committee, contributing to policy formulation and project oversight.
Politically active for over two decades, she has held several leadership roles within the National Democratic Congress (NDC). These include serving as a Branch Secretary between 2000 and 2008, President of the Tertiary Education Institutions Network (TEIN) at Wesley College of Education from 2012 to 2013, and as a member of the Ashanti Regional Women’s Wing Communications Team from 2012 to date. She also contested in the NDC’s 2019 parliamentary primaries in Atwima Mponua and currently serves on the NDC’s Ashanti Regional Communications Team.
With her grassroots appeal, proven dedication to public service, and extensive experience, supporters believe Sakina Oforiwaa is well-suited to fill the leadership gap and drive forward development in Atwima Mponua District.
