Ghana’s premier academic showdown is back with renewed intensity as the 2025 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) Regional Qualifiers officially begin on Monday, June 30. The five-week-long contest will see over 250 senior high schools across the country fiercely competing for a chance to advance to the national stage of the prestigious competition.

Grouped into Northern and Southern sectors, participating schools will engage in a series of intellectually charged contests hosted in various regional capitals. The qualifiers kick off simultaneously in Sunyani and Takoradi, serving as the opening battlegrounds for what promises to be a season filled with brilliance, strategy, and suspense.

The Ashanti Region continues to dominate in terms of participation, with 22 contests scheduled over six days—July 21 to 26. Top-performing institutions such as KNUST Senior High School, Yaa Asantewaa Girls’, Kumasi High School, and St. Louis SHS are expected to bring their A-game as they seek to secure coveted spots in the national championship.

The Northern Sector includes schools from nine key regions: Bono, Bono East, Ahafo, Northern, North East, Savannah, Upper East, Upper West, and Ashanti. Each match within these regions not only tests the academic prowess of the contestants but also determines who advances to represent their region on the national stage.

Meanwhile, the Southern Sector comprises Greater Accra, Oti, Volta, Eastern, Central, Western, and Western North regions. The contests in these zones will feature popular schools such as St. Thomas Aquinas SHS, Adisadel College, Accra Girls’ SHS, St. John’s Grammar, St. Rose’s SHS, and Aggrey Memorial SHS—each school hoping to cement its place in the next round through sheer wit and teamwork.

With its blend of critical thinking, fast recall, and deep scientific knowledge, the NSMQ remains the ultimate academic test for Ghana’s brightest young minds. The regional qualifiers are not just about progression—they’re about pride, legacy, and the drive to make history.

As the countdown begins and the contests unfold, excitement is building across campuses and communities. The race for academic supremacy is officially on, and only the sharpest minds will rise to claim their place among the elite at the 2025 NSMQ Nationals.
