Emmanuel Nikoi, the Director of Retail and Business Banking at Consolidated Bank Ghana (CBG), has reaffirmed the bank’s strong commitment to supporting the development of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Ghana. Speaking after leading a business delegation to China, Nikoi emphasized the significance of the initiative in equipping Ghanaian businesses with vital trade skills and fostering strategic international relationships that can drive their growth.

“This initiative reflects our ongoing commitment to improving the capabilities of Ghanaian SMEs,” Nikoi stated. “By providing our clients with access to essential trade knowledge and helping them form valuable partnerships, we support their growth, which contributes directly to Ghana’s economic progress.”

The trade mission to China offered CBG’s SME clients the unique opportunity to explore new international markets, forge strong supplier connections, and gain the confidence to navigate the complexities of international trade. The trip aligns with CBG’s mission to support Ghanaian businesses in expanding into global markets, positioning the bank as a leader in trade finance services for SMEs in the country.

The delegation’s visit coincided with the 136th Canton Fair in Guangzhou, one of the largest and most prestigious trade exhibitions in the world. According to a press release issued in Accra, CBG’s clients had the chance to meet with suppliers from various sectors, including consumer electronics, household goods, and healthcare, allowing them to discover new products and trends in global markets. Additionally, the fair provided a platform for exploring the potential for Ghanaian businesses to export their goods, with participants gaining a deeper understanding of international trade opportunities.

Nikoi explained that the trip was designed not only to explore business opportunities but also to provide important learning experiences. CBG had arranged for skilled personnel, fluent in both Chinese and local business practices, to assist the delegates throughout the trip. This guidance helped bridge any cultural and language barriers, ensuring that transactions were completed smoothly and securely. Through these efforts, CBG enabled its clients to navigate the complexities of global business, negotiate effectively with international partners, and better understand trade terms and procedures.

The itinerary for the trip was tailored specifically to the needs of Ghanaian SMEs, providing participants with insights into Chinese culture, effective negotiation techniques, and strategies for identifying reliable business partners. Throughout the visit, delegates explored major trade hubs, including the Canton Fair itself, as well as specialized markets for electronics, textiles, jewelry, and leather goods. Each location was carefully selected to meet the diverse business interests of CBG’s SME clients, providing them with a broad view of the opportunities available in the global marketplace.

This trade mission is part of CBG’s ongoing efforts to provide transformative experiences for Ghanaian businesses, building on the success of similar initiatives in the past. The initiative has generated significant interest, with increasing demand for more CBG-led trade missions in the future. The bank’s dedication to facilitating global business opportunities for SMEs is a reflection of its role as a key partner in Ghana’s economic growth and development.

Nikoi expressed CBG’s enthusiasm for offering similar trade missions in the future. “We are excited to continue supporting Ghanaian businesses as they expand into global markets,” he said. “Our goal is to provide opportunities that not only help businesses grow but also contribute to the development of Ghana’s economy as a whole.”

The success of this trade mission further reinforces CBG’s commitment to supporting the long-term success of Ghanaian businesses. The bank remains focused on its mission of helping SMEs expand beyond local borders, fostering long-term partnerships that can drive growth and prosperity.

As part of its ongoing support for SMEs, CBG will continue to provide businesses with the tools and resources needed to succeed in international trade. Nikoi concluded, “As we stand by our mandate, ‘We Stand With You,’ CBG remains dedicated to strengthening Ghana’s SMEs and ensuring their success in the global marketplace.”
