Cheddar claims the title of the ‘new force’, winning over Alan by 53,276 votes in the 2024 election

Nana Kwame Bediako, widely known as Cheddar, leader of the New Force movement, has proven himself as a formidable new presence in Ghana’s political scene. In the 2024 presidential election, he defeated Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen by a margin of 53,276 votes. Cheddar received 84,478 votes, securing third place, while Kyerematen, a prominent political figure, placed fourth with 31,202 votes.
On Monday, the Electoral Commission officially declared John Dramani Mahama as the winner of Ghana’s 2024 presidential race. The results, based on returns from 267 constituencies (excluding nine still pending), showed Mahama receiving 6,328,397 votes, which accounts for 56.55% of the valid votes cast. His closest rival, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), earned 4,657,304 votes, representing 41.61% of the total valid votes.
The declaration excluded results from nine constituencies where votes are yet to be counted. The total number of votes cast in the election, excluding these nine constituencies, stood at 11,191,422, with 239,109 rejected votes. Voter turnout in the 267 constituencies was 60.9%.
The nine constituencies with pending results include Awutu Senya East, Nsawam Adoagyiri, Akwatia, Suhum, Techiman South, Dome Kwabenya, Ablekuma North, Ahafo Ano North, and Damango. Mrs. Jean Mensa, the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, explained that these constituencies have a combined total of 947,116 registered voters. Even if all the valid votes from these constituencies went to Dr. Bawumia, Mahama would still maintain a commanding lead, securing more than the 50% needed to win.
With this in mind, Mrs. Mensa, the Returning Officer for the 2024 presidential election, officially declared John Dramani Mahama as the President-elect of Ghana, concluding, “Congratulations sir, it is finished.”
