The National Executive Committee of the Ghana Cocoa, Coffee, and Sheanut Farmers Association (COCOSHE) has issued a heartfelt statement of congratulations to President-elect John Dramani Mahama following his historic election victory in the 2024 general elections. In their message, the association expressed their profound pride in Mahama’s achievement, noting the significance of his election as an important milestone in Ghana’s democratic history.

In a statement signed by the President of COCOSHE, Alhaji Alhassan Bukari, the association highlighted the unprecedented nature of Mahama’s victory, describing it as a remarkable moment in the country’s voting history since its independence in 1957. This victory was not just a personal triumph for Mahama but also a moment of pride for the entire nation, according to COCOSHE. The association expressed its full confidence in the President-elect’s leadership capabilities, emphasizing that Mahama’s leadership will bring a new era of hope and progress to Ghana.

One of the main focuses of the statement was the pressing challenges faced by the country’s key agricultural sectors, specifically cocoa, coffee, and sheanut. These sectors, which have traditionally been the backbone of Ghana’s economy, have faced significant declines in production and economic returns in recent years. COCOSHE expressed its deep concern over these challenges and stressed the urgent need for targeted efforts to restore these sectors to their former strength.

The statement went on to pledge the unwavering support of COCOSHE to President-elect Mahama in addressing these challenges. The association assured the President-elect that it would work tirelessly alongside the new administration to revitalize these vital sectors. “We assure you of our unflinching support to help restore the Cocoa, Coffee, and Sheanut sectors to their former strength and significance, thereby helping to restore the economy of Ghana to a more stable and prosperous state,” the statement read.

COCOSHE also emphasized the importance of the recovery of the cocoa, coffee, and sheanut industries not only for the livelihoods of farmers but also for the broader economic health of the nation. As one of the largest employers in the country and a significant contributor to export earnings, the association underscored how the revitalization of these sectors is crucial to ensuring the long-term economic success of Ghana.

The association called for collaboration between the government, farmers, and other key stakeholders to create sustainable solutions that will address the long-term challenges faced by the agricultural sector. It stressed that a unified approach, with active involvement from all parties, is critical to ensuring the continued growth and sustainability of the cocoa, coffee, and sheanut industries.

As Ghana prepares for the formal inauguration of President-elect Mahama, COCOSHE extended its best wishes for a successful tenure. The association expressed its hope that under Mahama’s leadership, Ghana would experience a period of sustained economic growth, enhanced agricultural development, and increased prosperity for all citizens. COCOSHE further expressed confidence that, with Mahama at the helm, the country would be able to overcome its current challenges and achieve new heights of success.

The statement concluded with a strong call for unity and national progress, recognizing the role of every Ghanaian in the pursuit of the country’s collective aspirations. “Let us all come together to support President-elect Mahama in his quest to build a stronger, more prosperous Ghana,” the statement declared, ending with the words, “Long live COCOSHE, long live Ghana.”

This gesture of support from COCOSHE reflects not only the association’s confidence in President-elect Mahama but also its commitment to contributing positively to the future of Ghana’s agricultural sectors. With a new administration in place, the association hopes for a renewed focus on addressing the challenges facing cocoa, coffee, and sheanut farmers and is eager to work with the government to achieve these goals.
