Energy Minister Visits Ghana Gas, Calls for Enhanced Operational Efficiency

On July 16, 2025, Honorable John Abdulai Jinapor, Ghana’s Minister of Energy and Green Transition, conducted a strategic working visit to the Ghana National Gas Company Ltd. (GNGC). This visit was part of ongoing efforts to engage stakeholders within agencies under the ministry’s purview. During his time at GNGC, the Minister held discussions with both management and staff, focusing on the company’s future plans and the vital role of gas in Ghana’s energy sector.

Minister Jinapor stressed that natural gas is a key pillar in Ghana’s energy framework, not just a temporary solution. He urged the company’s leadership to intensify efforts aimed at increasing domestic gas production, underscoring the critical need for a dependable and sustainable gas supply to support the nation’s broader economic development goals.

“Gas isn’t simply a transitional fuel; it is the foundation of our country’s energy security and a significant driver of economic growth. We must prioritize investment in infrastructure and work towards expanding our pipeline network to ensure efficient delivery,” the Minister declared.

He further emphasized that the government remains committed to strengthening the gas sector, which is crucial for powering electricity generation, boosting industrial development, and creating jobs for Ghanaians.

In response, Judith Adjobah Blay, Managing Director of GNGC, welcomed the Minister warmly and commended his proactive leadership approach. She reassured the government and staff that Ghana Gas is fully aligned with national priorities and ready to contribute actively to the country’s energy ambitions.

“We appreciate the Minister’s clear vision and support. Ghana Gas is fully committed to advancing initiatives that will move Ghana’s energy sector forward,” Ms. Blay stated.

Speaking directly to the employees, Minister Jinapor motivated the staff to continue working diligently, highlighting their critical role in achieving the country’s energy objectives. Importantly, the Minister announced plans for the establishment of a new gas processing plant. This infrastructure project is expected to enhance operational capacity, strengthen the sector’s resilience, and provide a foundation for sustained energy security.

“The new processing plant will improve our gas infrastructure, optimize our operations, and open up new opportunities for growth and employment across the sector,” he revealed.
