Ghana Football Association (GFA) President, Kurt Okraku, led a significant delegation to the funeral of Nana Pooley, an ardent Asante Kotoko fan who tragically passed away due to football-related violence. The funeral, held in Kumasi on Thursday, saw Okraku holding a placard that read “Justice for Pooley,” as he joined other dignitaries in calling for justice and an end to hooliganism in Ghanaian football.

Accompanying Okraku were GFA Vice President Mark Addo, Chief of Staff Michael Osekre, and Senior Communications Manager Patrick Akoto. Their presence underscored the GFA’s determination to seek justice for the deceased fan and to stand in solidarity with Pooley’s family during their time of grief.

Pooley’s death, which occurred after a violent incident during a league match, has sparked renewed discussions about safety and security at football matches in Ghana. His passing has further emphasized the need for immediate action to address the safety concerns surrounding football events.

In response to the tragedy, the GFA has already begun working to enhance security measures at stadiums to protect fans and players alike. Pooley’s death has reinforced the importance of stronger regulation and enforcement of safety protocols at all levels of the sport.

As the GFA continues to pursue justice for Nana Pooley, it remains committed to fostering a safe and secure environment for all stakeholders in the game. The association is actively engaging with authorities to ensure that such tragic incidents are prevented in the future, and to make sure that the memory of Pooley leads to meaningful change in Ghanaian football.
