Augustus Goosie Tanoh, the Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Manifesto Committee on Employment and Job Creation, has emphasized that the performance of the current government will be the key factor in securing his party’s victory in the 2024 general elections. Speaking on TV3’s Hot Issues on December 1, 2024, Tanoh criticized the economic conditions under President Akufo-Addo’s administration, which he believes have created widespread hardship for Ghanaians, driving the public to seek change.

Tanoh pointed out several key issues under the Akufo-Addo government that have negatively impacted Ghanaians, including the rapid depreciation of the cedi against the dollar, high inflation rates, rising unemployment, and a mounting national debt. He stressed that these economic challenges have worsened the living conditions of ordinary citizens and contributed to growing dissatisfaction with the ruling party.

According to Tanoh, the government’s failure to deliver on its promises, coupled with its inability to resolve pressing economic issues, has left many Ghanaians frustrated. He asserted that this disillusionment is what will ultimately lead voters to choose the NDC in 2024, as the public is seeking an alternative leadership that will better address their needs. He also criticized the NPP for its failure to implement the policies it had campaigned on, which were intended to improve the lives of Ghanaians.

“I think the most telling propulsion for NDC’s victory is the record of this administration in terms of its non-achievement with regards to policies that it initiated and campaigned on,” Tanoh said during the interview. “Unfortunately, it has failed very tremendously and will bear very serious consequences for us as a people.”

Tanoh further emphasized that the hardships faced by Ghanaians at the household level are what will drive the electorate toward a dramatic change in government. He stressed that the growing dissatisfaction with the NPP’s leadership, combined with the worsening economic conditions, is motivating people to vote for the NDC, as they believe the party offers a better solution for the country’s future.

“The record and the hardships that Ghanaians are facing at the household level are what propel people to want to have a dramatic change,” Tanoh added. His comments reflect the NDC’s stance that the incumbent government has failed to meet the expectations of the people and that a shift in leadership is needed to restore stability and prosperity to the nation.

The NDC’s campaign for the 2024 elections is focused on addressing the key issues of unemployment, inflation, and national debt, which they argue have been mismanaged by the current government. Tanoh believes that the NDC, under the leadership of former President John Mahama, can offer a fresh approach to governance, one that prioritizes the needs of ordinary Ghanaians and aims to revitalize the country’s economy.

As the election approaches, the NDC is gaining momentum, with many Ghanaians increasingly feeling that a change in leadership is necessary to overcome the country’s economic challenges. The party is positioning itself as the solution to the difficulties facing the nation, with promises to tackle unemployment, create jobs, and reduce the national debt. The NDC’s message of hope and renewal is resonating with many voters, particularly those who have been negatively affected by the current government’s economic policies.

With the 2024 elections drawing nearer, the NDC is confident that the public’s dissatisfaction with the NPP will lead to a change in government. The party plans to continue highlighting the failures of the Akufo-Addo administration while presenting its own vision for a more prosperous Ghana. This sets the stage for what is expected to be a highly competitive and closely contested election.

Tanoh’s statements reflect a growing sentiment within the NDC that the failures of the Akufo-Addo government will lead to a decisive victory for the opposition party in the upcoming elections. With a focus on economic recovery, job creation, and a fairer distribution of resources, the NDC aims to win back the trust of Ghanaians and lead the country toward a brighter future.
