Habib Iddrisu, the First Deputy Minority Whip in Parliament, has urged John Dumelo, the Deputy Minister-designate for Food and Agriculture, to take his new role seriously and focus on supporting the Minister of Agriculture. During Dumelo’s vetting before the Appointments Committee of Parliament on February 25, Iddrisu advised the Ayawaso West Wuogon Member of Parliament to treat his political career with the seriousness it deserves, reminding him that “you are not in your movie industry” anymore.

Iddrisu emphasized that Dumelo’s position as Deputy Minister is a significant responsibility that requires professional dedication and commitment. He advised Dumelo not to take his new role lightly, as it is an opportunity to make a tangible impact on the country’s agricultural development. “When you take on this role, your primary duty is to assist your Minister. The Ministry of Food and Agriculture is vast and complex, and you should not try to overstep or rush things,” Iddrisu stated. “You are not in the movie industry anymore. You are in a position of real responsibility. Approach it with the seriousness it deserves so that you can help your Minister achieve success.”

Dumelo, who has been nominated to serve as the Deputy Minister for Food and Agriculture, is expected to play a vital role in advancing policies and initiatives that will support Ghana’s agricultural sector. His work will involve helping to shape and implement strategies that are critical to the country’s food security, rural development, and agricultural growth. Iddrisu’s advice underscores the importance of Dumelo’s new position and the need for him to adopt a professional and focused approach to his work.

Before his vetting, Dumelo expressed his desire to inspire Ghanaians, particularly the youth, to pursue their passions and work hard to achieve their goals. He spoke about the importance of following one’s passion and doing so with dedication and excellence. “I want to inspire people to follow their passion, to pursue what they want to do, and to do it well,” Dumelo said. “If I can achieve success in my own journey, I want others to feel motivated to do the same.”

Reflecting on his career, Dumelo acknowledged that while he has achieved significant success in the entertainment and business industries, he is still working to make a name for himself in politics. He admitted that his political journey has just begun, and while he has made progress, he is still striving to reach greater heights. “I am a man of many talents,” Dumelo said. “In the movie industry, I did quite well. In business, I believe I am doing quite well. But in politics, I am still trying to achieve success.”

Dumelo’s career has been marked by his versatility and ambition. He first rose to prominence as an actor in the Ghanaian movie industry, where he gained a large following for his roles in popular films. He later ventured into business, achieving success as an entrepreneur. However, his decision to enter politics has been a significant shift, and he now seeks to contribute to the development of Ghana through public service.

Dumelo also emphasized that he views his political career as an opportunity to inspire others. By sharing his own story, he hopes to motivate young people, especially those from humble backgrounds, to pursue their dreams and work hard to make a difference in their communities and the country as a whole. He sees his journey as proof that with determination and focus, anyone can achieve success, regardless of their starting point.

In his new role as Deputy Minister for Food and Agriculture, Dumelo will be tasked with addressing some of Ghana’s most pressing issues in the agricultural sector, including food security, rural development, and job creation. His efforts will be crucial in shaping the future of agriculture in Ghana, and his ability to collaborate effectively with the Minister of Agriculture will be key to his success.

Iddrisu’s advice, however, serves as a reminder that Dumelo must prioritize his political responsibilities and maintain a disciplined approach to his work in order to succeed in his new role and make a meaningful impact on Ghana’s agricultural sector.
