Mavis Hawa Koomson, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Awutu Senya East, has once again proven her commitment to the electoral process by personally taking on the role of a party agent during the ongoing special voting event. As she seeks re-election in the upcoming December polls, Koomson made a notable appearance at the voting center early in the morning before the official start of the Electoral Commission’s (EC) special voting process. Her name tag clearly indicated her position as a party agent for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in her constituency.

In an interview with 3news.com, Koomson, who is contesting for the Awutu Senya East parliamentary seat for the fourth consecutive time, emphasized that she did not want to treat this election as just another routine event. Despite her experience, she explained her decision to be fully involved in all aspects of the election, including acting as a party agent. She said, “I am a party agent today. I want to be part of the entire process. I don’t want to take chances at all.” Her proactive approach underlines her determination to oversee the entire electoral process closely and ensure it is carried out fairly and transparently.

Koomson’s political journey began in 2012, when she first contested the Awutu Senya East seat. After winning the NPP’s internal primaries, she went on to defeat Nuhu Adams, the then Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) for the constituency, who was representing the National Democratic Congress (NDC). Koomson emerged victorious again in the 2016 parliamentary elections with a comfortable margin of over 11,000 votes, further solidifying her hold on the constituency.

However, her victory margin significantly reduced in the 2020 elections when her main challenger, Phillis Naa Koryoo Okunnor from the NDC, managed to narrow the gap to just 5,000 votes. This close contest signaled a shift in the dynamics of the constituency, as the NDC candidate was able to draw in a larger share of the vote. With Okunnor once again standing against Koomson in this year’s election, the race for the Awutu Senya East seat is expected to be a highly competitive one, adding more pressure on Koomson to perform and retain her position.

Koomson’s decision to take on the role of a party agent during the special voting process reflects her hands-on approach to leadership. She has consistently shown a strong commitment to transparency and the integrity of the election process. By directly participating in overseeing the voting, she aims to ensure that there are no irregularities and that all election procedures are followed in accordance with the law.

Her approach also highlights her belief in the importance of being fully engaged in the electoral process. As a sitting MP who has experienced the challenges and intricacies of Ghana’s political landscape, Koomson understands the significance of participating in the election process from start to finish. She is taking no chances and is determined to leave nothing to chance as she works to maintain her political standing.

As the special voting event unfolds, the eyes of many are on Awutu Senya East, as Koomson’s role as a party agent demonstrates her deep commitment to ensuring a smooth, fair, and credible election process. The constituency has witnessed intense competition over the years, and Koomson’s proactive stance this time around reflects her ongoing dedication to serving her constituents and the people of Ghana at large.

Hawa Koomson’s decision to take on the party agent role during the special voting event highlights her dedication to the electoral process and commitment to winning re-election. Having already proven herself as a formidable political figure in the constituency, Koomson’s hands-on involvement signals her determination to ensure that the election is conducted fairly, with all the necessary measures taken to ensure transparency and credibility. As she faces stiff competition from the NDC’s Phillis Okunnor once again, Koomson is leaving no stone unturned in her quest to retain her seat and continue serving the people of Awutu Senya East.
