Celebrated Ghanaian highlife musician George Kwabena Adu, widely known as Kwabena Kwabena, is making headlines once again—this time for stepping into student leadership as he campaigns for the presidency of the Student Representative Council (SRC) at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA).

The announcement was made by his manager, Nana Poku Ashis, who revealed that the award-winning artist is currently enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program at UPSA and has decided to take on a new challenge by contesting for the highest student leadership position on campus.

Kwabena Kwabena, known for his soulful vocals and timeless hits, is no stranger to academia. He attended St. Peter’s Secondary School and later earned a Higher National Diploma (HND) from Accra Polytechnic. His foray into student politics adds him to a growing list of Ghanaian musicians who have taken leadership roles in tertiary institutions.

He joins the ranks of fellow artists such as Samini, who once served as SRC President at GIMPA; Guru, who currently holds the same position at the University of Ghana; and Dr Cryme, who was recently elected SRC President of Methodist University. These entertainers have proven that leadership and artistry can go hand-in-hand, and Kwabena Kwabena seems poised to follow suit.

The UPSA SRC elections are scheduled for May 30, 2025, and his candidacy has sparked widespread interest among the student body, with many curious to see how his experience, charisma, and public appeal will influence his campaign and potential leadership.

As a public figure entering student governance, Kwabena Kwabena’s involvement is expected to bring greater visibility to campus issues and possibly inspire more youth engagement in leadership and advocacy within tertiary institutions.
