The Importers and Exporters Association of Ghana (IEAG) has extended its congratulations to Dr. Cassiel Ato Baah Forson and Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare on their recent appointments as Minister for Finance and Minister for Trade, Agribusiness, and Industry, respectively. The association expressed strong support for the ministers, noting their expertise and dedication as key assets for the advancement of Ghana’s trade and maritime sectors.

In a statement signed by its Executive Secretary, Samson Asaki Awingobit, the IEAG expressed confidence in both Dr. Forson’s substantial experience in fiscal policy and economic management, as well as Mrs. Ofosu-Adjare’s commitment to promoting business growth, particularly in women-led enterprises. The association believes that their leadership will be instrumental in achieving significant progress in Ghana’s trade industry.

The IEAG emphasized its readiness to collaborate with the new ministers in a bid to improve Ghana’s import and export sector. According to the statement, the association sees this collaboration as essential to addressing the challenges faced by the industry, including bureaucratic delays, high tariffs, and insufficient infrastructure—issues that have long hindered the growth of businesses involved in trade.

“We are eager to work together with both ministers to achieve the goals set for the trade and maritime sectors. Through constructive partnership, we can make Ghana’s import and export environment more efficient and competitive,” the statement read.

As the key body representing the interests of importers and exporters, the IEAG called on the ministers to prioritize resolving these ongoing challenges, which have affected many traders. The association expressed hope that, under the leadership of Dr. Forson and Mrs. Ofosu-Adjare, these longstanding concerns would finally be addressed effectively.

“We trust that with Dr. Forson and Mrs. Ofosu-Adjare in charge, these persistent issues will be addressed and resolved promptly,” the IEAG assured.

The statement also praised Mrs. Ofosu-Adjare for her focus on empowering women-led businesses, which the association sees as an essential strategy for driving economic growth and improving livelihoods in Ghana. The proposed mentorship initiatives for young female entrepreneurs were highlighted as a valuable contribution to fostering an inclusive trade environment, one that aligns with the IEAG’s own vision for a thriving and diverse business landscape.

“We particularly appreciate Mrs. Ofosu-Adjare’s emphasis on empowering women-led enterprises, which will play a crucial role in strengthening the economy. Her efforts to introduce mentorship programs for young women entrepreneurs are in line with our belief that gender equality is key to unlocking economic potential,” the statement noted.

In conclusion, the IEAG reaffirmed its dedication to supporting the interests of Ghanaian traders and ensuring a conducive environment for the country’s trade industry. The association looks forward to a productive partnership with Dr. Forson and Mrs. Ofosu-Adjare, confident that their leadership will help drive the nation’s economic development and trade success.

“We remain committed to advocating for the needs of Ghanaian traders and working alongside the new ministers to enhance the business climate for the benefit of all,” the IEAG concluded.
