Justin Frimpong Kodua, the General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has expressed unwavering confidence in the party’s victory in the 2024 general election. Speaking at the ‘Possibilities Victory Rally’ on December 5, 2024, held at the University of Ghana Sports Directorate Park, Kodua emphasized his strong belief that the NPP would emerge victorious, stating that nothing could stop the party from winning.

Kodua’s remarks came in the wake of ongoing political tensions, particularly with the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC). He made it clear that the NDC would be unable to challenge the vision of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP’s presidential candidate. Kodua accused the NDC of attempting to stir religious divisions in the country but firmly asserted that the NPP would not allow such tactics to succeed. “On December 7, we are going to vote. We are winning the election. Nothing can change it; nothing can stop it. The NDC cannot stop it. Mahama will not contest the 2028 election; he will be accountable for only four years,” he declared, reaffirming his conviction that the NPP’s victory was inevitable.

In addition to criticizing the NDC’s tactics, Kodua condemned the rise of tribal politics in the country. He stressed that religion had never been a divisive factor in Ghana’s elections since the country’s independence, pointing to the unity and collaboration of past presidents, from Busia to Akufo-Addo, who led the country without allowing religious differences to interfere with governance. Kodua pointed out that regardless of their religious backgrounds, all of Ghana’s previous presidents had worked together to build the nation. “We are all Ghanaians, whether Christian, Muslim, or Traditionalist,” he said, lamenting the introduction of religious issues into the current election cycle.

His comments highlight a deep concern about the growing divisiveness in the political sphere, with some political figures attempting to exploit religious and tribal sentiments for their gain. Kodua argued that such tactics were harmful to the unity of the nation and that the leadership of the country should not be determined by religious identity but by the qualifications and vision of the individual. He used the example of China, a country where Christianity is not the dominant religion but has still thrived as a powerful nation. “God loves everybody. If you go to China today, how many of them are Christians?” he remarked, illustrating that a nation’s success does not depend on religious affiliation.

Kodua continued to express his confidence in Dr. Bawumia, reinforcing the belief that the vice president’s vision for Ghana is dynamic and forward-thinking. He confidently asserted that Dr. Bawumia’s leadership would bring a new era of prosperity and development to the country. “I can assure you that with Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, we are going to have a dynamic President,” Kodua stated, emphasizing the confidence that the NPP has in their candidate’s ability to lead Ghana into a brighter future.

The General Secretary of the NPP also stressed the importance of unity within the party and the country, as the election approaches. He called for an end to any divisive tactics, urging the people of Ghana to look beyond religion and tribalism when choosing their leaders. Kodua’s remarks were aimed at rallying supporters of the NPP to remain focused on the party’s vision for the future and to reject any attempts to sow division in the run-up to the election.

With just days to go until the election, Kodua’s strong statements reflect the NPP’s firm belief in their chances of victory and their commitment to promoting unity and progress in Ghana. The party is confident that with Dr. Bawumia at the helm, Ghana will continue to move forward and achieve greater success on the global stage. Through his remarks, Justin Kodua has made it clear that the NPP is prepared for the challenges ahead and that they are focused on securing a win on December 7, 2024.
