Ghanaian actress and filmmaker Kalsoume Sinare Baffoe has been officially named Ghana’s ambassador to the Kingdom of Spain by President John Dramani Mahama.

Her appointment, announced on June 21, 2025, and signed by Secretary to the President Callistus Mahama, is part of a broader diplomatic reshuffle involving 15 new nominations. These appointments include ambassadors, high commissioners, and a consul-general designate, all tasked with advancing Ghana’s interests abroad.

Kalsoume Sinare, a revered figure in Ghana’s film industry, brings a wealth of experience from decades in acting and public advocacy to her new diplomatic role.

Known for her powerful performances in films such as Out of Sight, Crossfire, Ties That Bind, and Trinity, Sinare became a household name in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Her extensive body of work also spans television dramas and stage productions, earning her critical acclaim for her versatility and depth.

Throughout her career, Sinare has been honored with several prestigious awards, including recognition at the Ghana Movie Awards. In 2021, she received a special tribute at the Golden Movie Awards Africa, celebrating her enduring impact on Ghana’s entertainment industry.

In addition to her artistic credentials, Sinare holds advanced academic qualifications. She earned a master’s degree in International Relations and Diplomacy from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) and completed a degree in Public Service and Governance at the same institution in 2021.

Her diplomatic appointment aligns with Ghana’s broader goals to strengthen cultural, economic, and bilateral relations with European countries. Spain is a crucial partner for Ghana, especially in sectors such as trade, tourism, renewable energy, and migration management.

This round of diplomatic nominations also includes notable figures such as businessman Benjamin A. Quashie, appointed High Commissioner to South Africa; former Kumasi mayor Kojo Bonsu, named ambassador to China; and Prof. Kwasi Obiri-Danso, former Vice-Chancellor of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, designated as ambassador to India.

All appointees will undergo the necessary vetting and approval processes before formally assuming their posts.
