King Promise Says His Music Did the Talking After AOTY Victory

Afrobeat artist King Promise has expressed that his debut win for Artiste of the Year at the 26th Telecel Ghana Music Awards is a result of his relentless dedication and hard work throughout the past year.

In a post-win interview on TV3’s New Day on May 12, the talented musician, known for his hit song “Paris,” revealed that his commitment to producing top-tier music and maintaining a strong work ethic were key factors in securing the highly coveted award. He emphasized that it was his work that ultimately earned him the recognition.

“I believe my work spoke for itself. My focus has always been on putting the music first, and everything else is secondary. The album I released this year did exceptionally well, and that was a major part of this victory,” he explained.

King Promise also shared how he remained optimistic and positive throughout the awards season, refusing to entertain any negative thoughts about potentially not winning the top prize. Instead of focusing on doubts, he kept a mindset of success and confidence in his craft.

“I try not to entertain negative energy. There’s no reason to think ‘What if I don’t win?’ I don’t believe in that kind of mindset. It’s really about what I felt inside, and I had faith in my journey,” he added.

When asked about the level of competition in the Artiste of the Year category, King Promise made it clear that he doesn’t see his fellow nominees as rivals but rather as worthy competitors. He praised the talent of everyone nominated, noting that each of them deserved to be in the running. For him, it was all about healthy competition rather than any sense of rivalry.

“It’s healthy competition, not rivalry. Everyone who was nominated for the award had earned their place. If it wasn’t challenging, it wouldn’t have been as rewarding,” he said.
