“Laryea Kingston Expresses Disappointment Over Black Stars’ Failure to Qualify for AFCON”

Former Black Starlets head coach, Laryea Kingston, has voiced his disappointment over the Black Stars’ failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament. The national team, coached by Otto Addo, missed out on the competition for the first time in 20 years.
Ghana ended up at the bottom of Group F, earning just three points after three draws and three defeats in the qualification rounds. This poor performance saw them fail to secure a place in the upcoming AFCON, which will be hosted in Morocco.
Speaking before the final draw for the tournament, Kingston, a former Ghana international, expressed his frustration. “I am very disappointed that our beloved country Ghana did not qualify. One of the strongest teams in African football will not be part of the AFCON in Morocco, and that is a disappointing moment for me,” he shared in an interview with Sporty FM.
The Black Stars’ absence from the tournament marks a difficult moment for Ghanaian football, as the team has historically been one of Africa’s powerhouses. However, despite this setback, the team will now turn its attention to the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, with crucial matches against Chad and Madagascar scheduled for March 2025. The focus is now on securing a spot in the global competition and moving forward from this disappointing chapter in their AFCON journey.
