The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has formally rejected the re-collated election results, accusing the Electoral Commission (EC) of deliberate manipulation aimed at distorting the electoral process. The party has expressed grave concerns over what it describes as a flagrant assault on Ghana’s democratic values and a violation of the people’s sovereign will.

In a statement signed by the NDC’s General Secretary, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, the party stated that the re-collated results were declared under dubious and unlawful circumstances. They argue that the actions of the EC in handling the election results represent a direct affront to the integrity of the country’s electoral process. The NDC further emphasized that the results do not reflect the true will of the people, accusing the EC of betraying the very essence of democracy in Ghana.

The party’s criticism is largely focused on the conduct of the EC, led by Chairperson Jean Adukwei Mensa, claiming that the EC’s actions have not only diminished the institution’s integrity but also severely undermined public confidence in the body responsible for overseeing elections in Ghana. The NDC argues that the commission’s handling of the results and the overall electoral process has contributed to an increasing public distrust in the system.

In addition to criticizing the EC’s actions, the NDC raised concerns about what it termed an “unholy alliance” between the Electoral Commission, the police, and the military. According to the party, this alleged alliance facilitated the manipulation of election results to favor the New Patriotic Party (NPP), the ruling political party. The       NDC claims that this arrangement compromised the fairness and transparency of the election, thus tarnishing the credibility of the outcome.

The NDC also pointed to the EC’s failure to adhere to the legal process, specifically its disregard for a court-issued Stay of Execution order. The court order, which called for the suspension of certain electoral actions, was apparently ignored by the EC, leading the NDC to accuse the commission of violating the rule of law. The party sees this as yet another example of the EC’s disregard for legal processes and an indicator of a broader agenda to influence the election outcome.

Despite the accusations, the NDC made it clear that it will continue to mobilize its supporters and engage the wider Ghanaian public in resisting any attempt to alter the election results. The party emphasized that it will not stand by idly while what they see as the people’s democratic mandate is undermined. They vowed to protect the integrity of the election process and ensure that the true voice of the electorate is heard and respected.

In a broader statement, the NDC reaffirmed its commitment to defending democratic values in Ghana. The party has expressed its determination to safeguard the country’s democratic institutions and prevent any efforts to derail the progress made in upholding democratic principles. The NDC insists that any attempt to invalidate the election results will not be tolerated, as it believes the will of the people must prevail.

The party’s stance reflects its growing frustration with what it perceives as systemic flaws in the election process and its belief that the Electoral Commission’s actions have compromised the integrity of the entire electoral system. The NDC has made it clear that it will continue to challenge the outcome, utilizing all available legal and democratic channels to ensure that the election results are rectified.

Ultimately, the NDC remains resolute in its fight to preserve democracy in Ghana, stressing the importance of transparency, accountability, and fairness in the electoral process. The party has vowed to continue advocating for the rights of Ghanaians and ensuring that the electoral process is truly reflective of the people’s will.
