NDC Group Calls on Mahama to Appoint Dr. Clement Clinton Blay as Ghana Gas CEO

A group of grassroots members from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Nzema has formally appealed to President John Dramani Mahama to appoint Dr. Clement Clinton Blay as the new CEO of Ghana Gas, citing his exceptional qualities, vast experience, and dedication to the party. The members, led by Kwame Richmond, made this call during a press briefing, urging the President to fulfill a promise made to Dr. Blay and to recognize his potential to lead one of the country’s most important state-owned enterprises.
In their appeal, the group stressed that Dr. Blay is an ideal candidate for the position, given his remarkable academic credentials and professional achievements. They emphasized that Dr. Blay’s vast experience in the mining and public health sectors, combined with his expertise in management and finance, makes him exceptionally qualified to oversee the operations of Ghana Gas, a critical national asset that plays a key role in the country’s energy sector.
Dr. Clement Clinton Blay, a native of Nzema, is well-acquainted with the area where the Ghana Gas company is based. This connection, the group argued, would provide him with a unique understanding of the region’s challenges and opportunities, which would be essential in his leadership of the company. Moreover, they highlighted Dr. Blay’s more than 10 years of experience in the mining industry, focusing on occupational health and safety standards, management, and finance, which are vital skills for managing a high-risk sector such as gas exploration and production.
The grassroots members also praised Dr. Blay’s background in public health and leadership, which they believe would be invaluable for the future of Ghana Gas. Notably, Dr. Blay served as a frontline staff member during the country’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic, ensuring the safety of both the public and health workers. His leadership during this crisis demonstrated his capacity to manage complex, high-pressure situations, which they argue would translate well to the role of CEO at Ghana Gas.
Mr. Richmond further emphasized that Dr. Blay’s diverse skill set positions him to lead Ghana Gas into a new era of growth and efficiency. The group believes that the country’s energy sector requires a competent, hardworking, and innovative youth to address its ongoing challenges. They expressed confidence that Dr. Blay would implement much-needed reforms and introduce major initiatives to improve the company’s operations and ensure its sustainability. Dr. Blay’s leadership, they argued, could significantly contribute to the transformation of Ghana Gas into a more efficient and profitable entity that will better serve the country’s energy needs.
The appeal also served as a reminder to President Mahama of a promise made during Dr. Blay’s withdrawal from the NDC parliamentary primaries in the Ellembelle constituency. Dr. Blay had stepped down, following Mahama’s advice, to allow Hon. Emmanuel Armah Boah to run unopposed in the primaries. This gesture was viewed by the grassroots members as a demonstration of Dr. Blay’s loyalty to the party and his willingness to prioritize the party’s interests over his personal ambitions. They urged President Mahama to honor the promise of a significant appointment for Dr. Blay, which was made in exchange for his selfless decision.
In support of their appeal, the grassroots members outlined Dr. Blay’s extensive academic qualifications. He holds a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), which they noted is a testament to his strong academic foundation in science and healthcare. Additionally, Dr. Blay has earned an Executive MBA in Finance and General Management from Guglielmo Marconi University in Italy, equipping him with essential skills in financial management and strategic leadership. Furthermore, Dr. Blay possesses a Master of Science (MSc) in Health Services Administration from Uninettuno University in Italy, as well as a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from the University of London, enhancing his legal and administrative expertise.
The grassroots group also highlighted Dr. Blay’s post-graduate qualifications, including a Postgraduate Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety from the James Lind Institute in Switzerland, which is particularly relevant to the health and safety aspects of managing a company like Ghana Gas. In addition to his academic achievements, Dr. Blay is a licensed pharmacist and holds a Bachelor of Pharmacy (BPharm) degree from KNUST. His commitment to continuous learning is further demonstrated by his certificates in Project Management and Policy Development and Advocacy from the University of Washington, USA.
In addition to his academic and professional achievements, Dr. Blay serves as the Executive Director of the Shaip Africa Foundation, where he is actively involved in initiatives aimed at improving public health and safety across the continent. His leadership in the foundation showcases his commitment to social development and his ability to manage large-scale projects and programs.
The grassroots members emphasized that Dr. Blay’s qualifications and experience make him an ideal candidate to lead Ghana Gas into a brighter future. They expressed confidence that under his leadership, the company would not only strengthen its operations but also contribute significantly to the country’s economic development. They concluded by reiterating their call for President Mahama to appoint Dr. Blay as CEO of Ghana Gas, recognizing his hard work, loyalty, and dedication to the NDC and to the people of Ghana.
