NDC Volta Chairman Praises President for Focusing on the Region’s Welfare

NDC Volta Chairman Hails President Mahama for Prioritizing the Region’s Welfare
Mawutor Agbavitor, the Volta Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has praised President John Dramani Mahama for his continued dedication to improving the welfare of the Volta Region. This comes after the government allocated significant financial resources to support those affected by recent disasters in the region, highlighting the President’s ongoing commitment to addressing the region’s challenges.
In his 2025 budget presentation to Parliament, Finance Minister Cassiel Ato Forson revealed that the government had earmarked GH¢242.5 million to assist victims of the Akosombo Dam spillage. Additionally, GH¢200 million was allocated to provide relief to those impacted by the recent tidal wave disaster in Ketu South, particularly in communities such as Agavedzi, Amutsinu, Salakope, and Adina. These announcements have garnered strong praise from local leaders, particularly Agbavitor, who emphasized their importance for the people of Volta.
Speaking to the Daily Graphic on Wednesday, March 12, Agbavitor commended President Mahama for his swift and effective response to these crises, describing the allocations as a testament to the President’s bold leadership and compassion. According to Agbavitor, these initiatives are a clear reflection of President Mahama’s steadfast commitment to fulfilling promises made during his campaigns and in his party’s manifesto.
“We, the Volta NDC, express our heartfelt gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama, a true statesman and a leader who consistently keeps his promises. His actions demonstrate his deep commitment to the well-being of the Volta Region,” Agbavitor said. He emphasized that the President’s decision to allocate these substantial funds for disaster relief in the region is a testament to his determination to make a tangible impact on the lives of the people.
The GH¢242.5 million allocated for the victims of the Akosombo Dam spillage is seen as a vital support package for families who have suffered significant losses due to the disaster. Homes, crops, and livelihoods were destroyed by the spillage, and this financial aid is seen as an important step in helping people rebuild their lives.
Likewise, the GH¢200 million allocated to support victims of the tidal wave disaster in Ketu South is a much-needed lifeline for communities that have experienced repeated devastation from the waves. Communities such as Agavedzi, Salakope, Amutsinu, and Adina, which have been severely impacted by the natural disaster, will benefit from the funds, allowing them to recover and rebuild their homes and livelihoods.
Agbavitor underscored that these interventions are a reflection of President Mahama’s deep concern for the welfare of Ghanaians, particularly those who have experienced hardship. He pointed out that the President’s actions go beyond merely providing financial support – they demonstrate a clear commitment to restoring dignity and hope to people who have been affected by natural calamities.
“This relief package reaffirms President Mahama’s dedication to improving the lives of ordinary citizens, especially those in the Volta Region who have faced difficult circumstances. His policies reflect a genuine concern for human development, economic resilience, and social justice,” Agbavitor explained.
He also emphasized that the Volta NDC fully supports the direction the government is taking. “We have carefully reviewed the budget, and we are confident that President Mahama’s policies are both visionary and people-centred. They aim to reset Ghana’s economy and address the challenges faced by ordinary citizens,” Agbavitor added.
Looking ahead, Agbavitor reassured residents of the Volta Region that under President Mahama’s leadership, their concerns would continue to be prioritized. He called on the people to remain confident in the government’s dedication to fostering development and enhancing the social welfare of the region. “The NDC in Volta stands united in its support for the President’s leadership and his commitment to the region’s growth and well-being,” he concluded.
Agbavitor’s remarks reflect the strong support the NDC has for President Mahama’s administration and its approach to addressing the challenges faced by the people of Volta. By focusing on the region’s immediate needs and ensuring the fulfillment of key promises, the government is reinforcing its pledge to bring tangible change and progress to the Volta Region.
