Techaide, a Ghanaian-based social enterprise, has launched an innovative offline learning platform called “ASANKA” to enhance the teaching and learning experience for both teachers and students, particularly in rural areas. The platform is designed to address the challenges of internet access and connectivity in underserved regions, ensuring that students across the country, especially those in rural communities, have access to quality educational content.

ASANKA, which stands for “All Subjects and New Knowledge Access,” provides educational resources such as lessons, videos, and interactive exercises without the need for internet connectivity. The platform currently covers essential subjects like Mathematics, English, and Science for basic education levels, from Class One to Junior High School Three (JHS 3). Additionally, Techaide plans to expand the platform’s offerings to include Senior High School (SHS) content in the future. This development will further enhance access to quality education for students at various academic levels.

The platform is designed to work effectively in both rural and urban environments, ensuring that all students, regardless of their geographical location, have access to appropriate learning resources. ASANKA is aligned with the national curriculum, which guarantees that the content provided is relevant and appropriate for each student’s grade level. The platform is packed with various features, including offline access, multi-language support, curriculum-aligned content, energy efficiency, and a user-friendly interface. These features make ASANKA an ideal educational tool for students and teachers alike, promoting effective learning and teaching experiences.

One of the key selling points of ASANKA is its free access for individual users, with minimal subscription fees for schools. This pricing structure allows the platform to be used both at home by individual students and within schools, expanding its reach to a wider audience.

At the launch event, Kafui Prebbie, the Chief Executive Officer of Techaide, explained that ASANKA was created as a “digital port” to provide easy access to educational content that aligns with the Ghana Education Service (GES) curriculum. Prebbie highlighted that many students in Ghana face significant barriers to accessing online learning resources due to the high costs of internet access and poor connectivity in certain regions. ASANKA was developed with these challenges in mind, offering a solution for the estimated 30 percent of Ghanaians who currently lack reliable internet access.

Prebbie emphasized that ASANKA’s offline capabilities make it a crucial tool for bridging the digital divide in Ghana’s education sector. It allows students in rural communities, who may otherwise be excluded from digital learning opportunities, to benefit from the same educational content as those in urban areas. This offline feature is especially important in regions where internet access is limited or unreliable, as it ensures that students can continue their education without disruption.

The platform is designed not only for students but also for teachers, providing them with resources to create engaging lessons and track student progress. It allows for a more personalized learning experience, with interactive exercises and assessments that cater to different learning styles and paces. Teachers can use the platform to complement their traditional teaching methods, offering students a dynamic and engaging way to learn.

The launch of ASANKA is an important step forward in the effort to improve education in Ghana, especially for students who face difficulties in accessing educational materials. By providing an offline platform that is aligned with the national curriculum and designed to meet the needs of students in both urban and rural areas, Techaide is helping to ensure that all students have access to quality education. ASANKA’s wide-ranging impact will support educational equity and help create a brighter future for students across Ghana, regardless of their background or location.

ASANKA is poised to transform the educational landscape in Ghana by providing accessible, high-quality, curriculum-based content to students who are otherwise excluded due to limited internet access. Through its innovative design and offline capabilities, ASANKA addresses critical gaps in education, ensuring that all students, regardless of where they live, can access the learning resources they need to succeed academically.
