Yaw Yeboah, a Communication Team Member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has warned that the party’s executives will soon face backlash from their own members. His comments followed the NPP’s loss in the 2024 general elections, a defeat he attributes to resource mismanagement and lack of support for grassroots party officials. Speaking during an interview on Joy Prime, Yeboah expressed frustration over how the party’s resources, intended for the election campaign, were hoarded by party executives, leaving constituency and polling station officials without the necessary materials to mobilize voters.

Yeboah’s remarks were pointed as he predicted that the consequences of this resource hoarding would soon be felt. He said, “Very soon, you’ll see the NDC guys and the attacks on the streets, the NPP guys will also chase them (referring to NPP bigwigs) in their houses. I am telling you. The party executives.” His statement suggests that party members, who feel betrayed by their leaders’ actions, may resort to drastic measures to hold the executives accountable.

He went on to explain that the resources meant to energize the campaign were kept in the homes of party executives rather than being distributed to those who were in the field doing the actual work. “To do what? To account to the people. I can tell you now that even resources that were supposed to be for the election are in their houses,” Yeboah added. His comments reflect deep frustration with the lack of transparency and accountability within the NPP’s leadership, as many party officials feel that the resources that could have made a difference in the election were mismanaged or withheld.

The Communication Team Member also accused party leaders of neglecting those at the grassroots level, particularly the constituency and polling station executives who were instrumental in voter mobilization. Yeboah stated, “We are angry. Go to the constituencies, go to the polling stations. Why do we have polling station executives? Go and ask them if they were resourced enough to go into this election.” He emphasized that the failure to adequately support these crucial figures in the party’s structure contributed to a sense of disillusionment and voter apathy, which ultimately led to the party’s defeat.

Yeboah was candid in his criticism, saying, “I won’t come and sit here and pretend that all is well. Look, we failed to energize the people.” His words indicate that the party’s leadership failed to understand the importance of grassroots mobilization and failed to properly motivate and equip its members to actively participate in the campaign. The lack of resources and the feeling of neglect among local party officials left many feeling disengaged, which he believes played a key role in the election loss.

The NPP’s defeat in the 2024 election has been largely attributed to voter apathy, with many party members believing that the failure to properly energize and mobilize supporters at the grassroots level was a major factor. Yeboah’s comments shed light on the internal dissatisfaction within the party, with many members questioning the effectiveness and leadership of the party’s executives. The widespread frustration within the party is palpable, as members at all levels feel let down by those in power.

In the aftermath of the election, the NPP’s loss has been further complicated by reports of attacks on state institutions, allegedly carried out by members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). The presidential results showed former President John Dramani Mahama as the winner, receiving 56.55% of the total valid votes, while Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP’s candidate, garnered 41.61%. Mahama’s victory marks a significant shift in the political landscape, and tensions have risen, particularly as both parties continue to react to the results.

Yeboah’s remarks about the mismanagement of resources and the lack of support for grassroots efforts reflect a deeper frustration within the NPP. Many party members believe that the failure to prioritize resources for local party structures and to engage their supporters led directly to the loss of voter enthusiasm, contributing to the party’s defeat. His call for accountability and transparency within the party’s leadership is a reminder that the NPP needs to reflect on its strategy moving forward and address internal concerns if it hopes to regain trust and support ahead of future elections.

Yeboah’s statements reveal the growing dissatisfaction and anger within the NPP following their loss in the 2024 elections. His criticism of the party’s leadership for hoarding campaign resources and failing to support grassroots efforts highlights the challenges the party faces in rebuilding trust and unity. As the NPP looks ahead to future elections, addressing these internal issues will be crucial for regaining the confidence of its members and supporters.
