NPP Forms Election Review Committee to Investigate Potential Defeat in 2024 Elections
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has unveiled plans to establish a dedicated election review committee in January 2025 to conduct a comprehensive analysis of the party’s defeat in the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections. This initiative aims to assess the reasons behind the party’s loss and chart a clear path for future growth and improvement.
The review committee will engage with party members and a broad range of stakeholders, including the public, to identify the factors that contributed to the NPP’s disappointing performance in the elections. The committee’s work will be focused on examining the internal and external influences that impacted the party’s electoral outcome and understanding the specific challenges it faced during the campaign.
National Chairman of the NPP, Stephen Ayesu Ntim, shared these details during a press briefing on December 23 at the party’s headquarters in Asylum Down, Accra. According to Mr. Ntim, the establishment of the committee is a significant step toward introspection and reform within the party. He stressed that the process would not only help pinpoint the shortcomings and missteps during the election period but also lay the groundwork for long-term solutions to revitalize the NPP.
He further emphasized the importance of the review committee in providing a platform for party members to air their grievances and share constructive suggestions for the future. “We firmly believe that the review committee will allow our people to voice their concerns, and it will bring forward the reforms necessary to restructure the party and strengthen it for the future,” Mr. Ntim remarked. The committee’s work, he added, would also include a critical examination of the party’s internal structures and processes, particularly concerning the election of presidential and parliamentary candidates, as well as party executives. This, he said, would help ensure that the NPP remains competitive and relevant in Ghana’s political landscape.
In his address, Mr. Ntim acknowledged the current difficulties the NPP is facing after the 2024 elections, but he remained optimistic about the party’s ability to rebound and recover. “This is undoubtedly a difficult period for the party, but we are resilient and have always managed to rise above adversity. We will reorganize ourselves and prepare for the political battles that lie ahead,” he said with conviction.
The NPP chairman urged the party’s rank and file to embrace the restructuring process with renewed determination and enthusiasm. “We cannot afford to give up or be disheartened. We must unite and channel our energies into rebuilding the party. We must ensure that the elephant (the NPP’s symbol) begins to trumpet once again,” he urged. Mr. Ntim called for collective action and emphasized that now was the time for all members to come together, put aside any differences, and work towards strengthening the party’s foundation.
Additionally, he highlighted that the party’s leadership is committed to ensuring that the upcoming elections would be approached with a clear strategy and better preparation. He stressed that the NPP would take bold steps to address the internal issues that have hindered its success in the 2024 election cycle, and the review process would be a critical tool in achieving that. “The committee’s findings and suggestions will be crucial in shaping the direction of the party moving forward,” Mr. Ntim said.
Looking ahead, the NPP hopes that the review process will help create an inclusive atmosphere where ideas for progress and unity can flourish. It will not only examine the causes of the election loss but also focus on generating recommendations for the future, ensuring that the party learns from its past and strengthens itself for future contests.
Mr. Ntim reaffirmed his commitment to leading the NPP through this challenging time, urging all members to remain focused on the long-term goals and the party’s recovery. The party is determined to regain its strength and remain a dominant force in Ghana’s political arena.
