Okaikwei Central MP Patrick Yaw Boamah Urges Black Stars to Reach 2010 World Cup Standards

Okaikwei Central MP Patrick Yaw Boamah is calling on the Black Stars to rekindle the form that saw them reach the quarterfinals of the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. Although Ghana has shown strong performances in their recent 2026 World Cup qualifiers, Boamah believes the team has yet to replicate the exceptional level of play that earned the nation worldwide recognition 15 years ago.
Despite the team’s impressive victories in their qualifier matches against Chad and Madagascar, Boamah is pushing for the Black Stars to aim for even greater heights. He emphasized the importance of reaching the level of play that allowed Ghana to make history by becoming one of Africa’s top contenders in 2010.
In a speech delivered on the floor of Parliament, Boamah expressed his desire for the team to deliver performances that would excite and inspire Ghanaians. “We want our national team to return to the level that took us to the quarterfinals in 2010. We encourage the team to continue improving and to achieve results that will bring joy to the hearts of the Ghanaian people,” Boamah stated, as quoted by Peace FM.
Ghana’s recent form in the qualifiers has been promising. In their latest match against Madagascar, the Black Stars produced a dominant 3-0 victory in Morocco. Thomas Partey played a pivotal role, scoring twice—once in the 11th minute and again in the 53rd—while Mohammed Kudus added a third goal in the 58th minute. Prior to this, Ghana had crushed Chad 5-0 in Accra, displaying a high level of dominance and skill.
With the World Cup qualifiers now paused until September, the Black Stars will return to their respective club teams for the time being. However, Boamah’s call to action serves as a reminder that the national team must continue pushing towards excellence. Ghana has long been a force in African football, and Boamah’s remarks highlight the expectation for the Black Stars to rise to their past achievements, reclaiming their place among the continent’s elite teams.
