Osabarima Asare Payin calls for protection of Cocoa Lands from galamsey. Osabarima Etuobefom Asare Payin, Chief of Amanase in the Eastern region, has urged traditional leaders to safeguard cocoa farm lands from the destructive effects of galamsey

Speaking ahead of the 2025 Bomukye Cocoa festival, Osabarima emphasized that traditional leaders, as custodians of the land, must protect it from distraction.

Cocoa, a crucial commodity, has long been the backbone of Ghana’s economy. Osabarima stressed that losing cocoa lands to illegal mining activities is unacceptable, highlighting the need for alternative financial growth solutions that don’t involve galamsey.

He underscored the importance of leaving a lasting legacy for future generations, just as their forefathers preserved the land for them.

Osabarima also noted that Ghana’s economy was stronger decades ago, prior to the surge in illegal mining activities. His call to action aims to raise awareness about the devastating impact of galamsey on cocoa lands and the economy as a whole.
