Oti Region Approves Full Slate of Nine MDCE Appointments

All nine Municipal and District Chief Executive (MDCE) nominees for the Oti Region have been officially confirmed by their respective assemblies, marking a key step in regional governance. The confirmation process received overwhelming support, with the majority of nominees earning full backing from local assembly members.
Out of the nine nominees, seven secured 100% approval from their respective assemblies, reflecting strong local confidence in their leadership capabilities. The remaining two nominees received an average approval rate of 82.5%, still demonstrating solid support for their appointments.
Among the unanimous selections were Eric Kwaku Oppong of Biakoye, Dr. Samuel Suraj Oppong of Kadjebi, and Martin Kofi Anato from Krachi Nchumuru. The other confirmed nominees include Safo Nketia (Krachi East), Prosper Addo (Krachi West), Joseph Antwi (Nkwanta-South), and Isaiah Dordoe (Nkwanta North). Additionally, Parke-Davis Magyigbe of Jasikan and Godfried Koffie of Guan were approved with 86% and 79% approval rates, respectively.
The confirmation process was preceded by a swearing-in ceremony for all the appointees, conducted by a local judge to ensure a full assembly. Following the swearing-in, assembly members proceeded to elect their respective Presiding Members (PM), completing the required steps for the election process.
Regional Minister’s Call for Unity and Responsibility
Present at each confirmation was the Oti Regional Minister, John Kwadwo Gyapong, who emphasized the importance of responsible voting. Speaking to the assembly members, Gyapong urged them to prioritize the region’s development over political affiliation, stressing the need for unity in order to foster progress. He pointed out that development starts at the district level and that putting aside partisan differences would be crucial to advancing the region’s goals.
“Our region is rich in both natural and human resources, and it is these assets that will drive our socio-economic growth,” Gyapong stated. “To fully capitalize on these resources, we must work together as one, focusing on the development of Oti as a whole.”
Gyapong further urged the assembly members to see themselves as a unified team and work collectively to bring the much-needed development to the region. He noted that Oti Region is still in its infancy in terms of development, and it would require the combined efforts of all stakeholders to achieve long-term growth and prosperity.
“Development does not recognize political parties, and we must unite to make Oti the shining example of progress in Ghana,” he added.
Commitment to Collaborative Leadership
In his acceptance speech, Eric Kwaku Oppong, the MDCE of Biakoye, expressed his gratitude to the assembly members for their unanimous support. He called for greater collaboration between all stakeholders, including traditional leaders and local communities, to address the challenges facing the region.
Oppong assured the assembly that his doors would remain open to everyone as he works toward the effective implementation of government programs and policies.
“I believe in collaboration and inclusivity,” he said. “Together, we can achieve sustainable development and improve the quality of life for everyone in Biakoye and across the Oti Region.”
With the confirmation of all nine MDCEs, the Oti Region is now poised for a more coordinated effort to address regional challenges and ensure that the region thrives economically and socially.
