The Ghana Police Service has announced a GH₵20,000 reward for any credible information leading to the arrest of a group of individuals accused of making violent threats in Obuasi ahead of the 2024 general elections. The suspects, identified as Fuseini Yahuza, Bernard Ahedor, Simon, Basit, and Musa Yakubu—also known as “Agya Musah”—along with their accomplices, have been on the run since November 15, 2024. These individuals are suspected of inciting unrest in an effort to disrupt the upcoming elections.

The group’s actions came to light after a video surfaced online in which they made disturbing statements about causing chaos during the December polls. The video quickly went viral and raised widespread concerns about potential violence, prompting the Ghana Police Service to act swiftly.

On November 15, 2024, the Police issued a statement describing the group’s actions as a clear violation of the public peace under Section 207 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29). The statement officially declared the individuals wanted, beginning a nationwide search for their whereabouts.

On November 24, 2024, the Ghana Police Service released another statement appealing to the public for help in locating the suspects. They are offering a reward of GH₵20,000 for anyone who provides credible information that leads to the arrest of the wanted individuals. The authorities have emphasized the importance of public cooperation in ensuring the safety and security of the nation as it approaches the elections.

In the statement, the Police assured the public that they are fully committed to ensuring a peaceful and orderly environment as the election period nears. They urged citizens to remain vigilant and to report any information that may assist in bringing the suspects to justice. The Police also provided a dedicated phone number, 0547927272, for people to contact them confidentially if they have any useful information.

“We are appealing to the public to support us in this mission,” the statement said. “Your assistance can make a significant difference in ensuring that those responsible for these threats are brought to justice.”

The election violence threats posed by the group in Obuasi have raised serious concerns about the integrity of the upcoming elections. Election-related violence has been a troubling issue in several countries, and Ghana is no exception. With the 2024 general elections rapidly approaching, the Ghana Police Service has made it a priority to maintain peace and security throughout the nation to ensure that citizens can exercise their democratic rights freely and without fear.

The video released by the group displayed a clear intent to disrupt the democratic process by causing chaos around election time. This has prompted the Ghana Police Service to take immediate action to prevent any escalation of these threats. The group is now a central focus of a manhunt, and the GH₵20,000 reward is intended to incentivize the public to come forward with any information that could help locate the suspects.

The Police have assured citizens that they are leaving no stone unturned in their efforts to identify and capture those behind the threats. Through a combination of public appeals, enhanced surveillance, and intelligence gathering, the authorities are working hard to prevent any violence that could undermine the election process.

The Ghana Police Service has emphasized that the country’s elections must be peaceful and orderly. To this end, the Police are deploying increased security personnel to key areas, especially those identified as high-risk zones. They have also been working closely with other security agencies to monitor and prevent any actions that could threaten the peace, including the actions of the group in Obuasi.

As Ghana approaches its 2024 general elections, maintaining peace and security has become a top priority for the government and the Ghana Police Service. The GH₵20,000 reward is one of the many measures the authorities have implemented to address threats of violence and ensure the integrity of the electoral process. With a call for public cooperation and an increased security presence, the Police are working tirelessly to ensure that the elections are free from disruption, allowing the people of Ghana to choose their leaders in a safe and orderly manner. By staying vigilant and sharing information, citizens can play an important role in ensuring that Ghana’s democracy is protected from those who would seek to destabilize it.
