President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has strongly urged Ghanaians to vote for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in the upcoming December 7 elections, emphasizing that such a decision will help improve the country’s conditions and continue the progress made under his administration. According to the President, casting a vote for Dr. Bawumia would advance the nation’s development, while voting for former President John Dramani Mahama would reverse the significant strides achieved over the last eight years.

During a stakeholder engagement event held in both Tema and Accra on Monday, December 2, 2024, President Akufo-Addo described Dr. Bawumia as “a man of destiny” and “the man of tomorrow” for Ghana. Reflecting on their long-term collaboration of 16 years, the President expressed full confidence that Dr. Bawumia would make an exceptional leader for the country. He referred to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential candidate as someone uniquely qualified to take on the role of President, highlighting his work ethic, integrity, and competence.

The stakeholder meeting was attended by diverse groups, including Christian and Muslim clergy, chiefs, mechanics, seamstresses, and drivers, marking the second stop of President Akufo-Addo’s three-day “thank you” tour in Accra. He spoke highly of Dr. Bawumia’s professionalism, noting that in all their years of working together, Dr. Bawumia had never disappointed him. The President praised his running mate for his honesty, hard work, and compassionate nature, stressing that the foundation laid by the current administration will be an essential stepping stone for Dr. Bawumia to build upon.

President Akufo-Addo emphasized that the progress made in the past eight years would continue under Dr. Bawumia’s leadership, urging the public to reject misleading promises like the “24-hour economy,” which he described as impractical, particularly given the struggles of the Mahama administration to ensure consistent electricity supply during his time in office. He also highlighted the importance of the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy, noting that the increased enrollment of students in free secondary education is a strategic move to prepare Ghana for the digital age and the fourth industrial revolution.

He stressed that Ghana had missed out on the previous three industrial revolutions, and the country could not afford to fall behind during the fourth. The President argued that this revolution, which focuses on digital and technological advancements, will be key to propelling the economies of the 21st century. He further emphasized that Dr. Bawumia, with his knowledge and understanding of these modern challenges, is the best candidate to lead Ghana forward in this new era.

Reaffirming his belief that Ghana’s future lies in the hands of Dr. Bawumia, President Akufo-Addo urged voters not to repeat past mistakes by voting for someone who had proven to be ineffective. He reminded Ghanaians that they had rejected former President Mahama after his first term, citing his poor governance as the reason for the decision. The President expressed his hope that Ghanaians would make the right choice to secure a better future for the country.

In addition to his engagements in Accra, President Akufo-Addo visited the Ga Traditional Council, where he thanked the chiefs and people of the Ga State for their unwavering support during his presidency. He appealed to them to offer the same support to Dr. Bawumia in the upcoming election. King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, the Ga Mantse, responded by commending the President for his remarkable leadership, particularly pointing to key projects like the James Town harbor, as well as the contributions made by First Lady Rebecca Akufo-Addo.

As the election draws near, President Akufo-Addo’s message is clear: Dr. Bawumia is the leader who will ensure continued progress and prosperity for Ghana, while a return to Mahama’s leadership would jeopardize the country’s achievements. The President’s campaign efforts reflect his strong belief in Dr. Bawumia’s potential to lead Ghana to greater heights.
