President Mahama Appoints Charlotte Osei and Eight Others to Ghana Gas Board

In a significant move aimed at strengthening leadership at Ghana National Gas Limited Company (Ghana Gas), former President John Dramani Mahama has appointed a new nine-member board to oversee the operations and strategic direction of the state-owned enterprise. Among the appointees is Charlotte Osei, the former Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, whose experience in public service is expected to bring valuable insight to the energy sector.
The newly constituted board will be responsible for shaping the long-term vision of Ghana Gas, improving governance structures, and ensuring operational efficiency as the company continues to play a central role in Ghana’s energy ecosystem. The announcement of the appointments was made public on Wednesday, April 30, through an official statement issued by Ghana Gas.
At the helm of the board is Mr. Kofi Totobi Quakyi, a respected public servant with decades of experience in government and administrative leadership. As board chairman, his role will be critical in guiding discussions, formulating policy direction, and overseeing implementation strategies that align with national development goals in the energy sector.
Joining him on the board are several other accomplished professionals and public figures: Ms. Judith Adjobah Blay, who currently serves as Acting Chief Executive Officer of Ghana Gas; Mr. Emmanuel Vincent; Member of Parliament Ms. Nasira Afrah Gyekye; Ms. Charlotte Osei; Mr. Samuel Kwame Borlu; traditional leader Awulae Agyefi Kwame II; Mr. Baba Abdul Jamal Adama; and Mr. Blay Nyameke Armah, also a sitting Member of Parliament.
Ghana Gas, in its statement, welcomed the new board members and conveyed optimism about their collective ability to drive transformation within the organization. “We are excited to collaborate with the newly appointed Board. Their diverse backgrounds and leadership experience will be essential in helping Ghana Gas navigate both operational challenges and industry expectations,” the company noted.
The board will also be expected to provide oversight in a range of areas including regulatory compliance, stakeholder engagement, and the adoption of technological innovations to improve service delivery. With rising expectations for transparency and accountability in state institutions, the new board carries the weighty responsibility of ensuring that Ghana Gas meets both national and international standards.
Charlotte Osei’s inclusion in the board has been widely noted, given her notable background in law, electoral governance, and institutional reform. Her tenure at the Electoral Commission was marked by significant changes to electoral processes and administrative systems. Observers suggest her presence on the board could introduce a fresh approach to organizational governance and public accountability within Ghana Gas.
The energy sector in Ghana continues to experience growth, with natural gas playing an increasingly vital role in electricity generation and industrial development. As the country moves towards energy self-sufficiency and sustainability, Ghana Gas stands at the heart of this transformation. The board’s ability to craft and support a long-term strategic plan will be instrumental in ensuring that Ghana’s natural gas resources are harnessed effectively and equitably.
Mr. Totobi Quakyi’s leadership, supported by a board of seasoned professionals, is expected to bring both stability and innovation to the company’s operations. The coming months will be crucial as the board sets its agenda and begins the process of evaluating current structures, initiating reforms, and reinforcing the company’s mission to serve as a reliable backbone for the country’s energy needs.
With a fresh team in place, Ghana Gas is poised to enter a new phase of growth, guided by experienced hands and a renewed focus on efficiency, accountability, and national development.
