President Mahama Appoints Judith Adjobah Blay as Acting CEO of Ghana National Gas Company

President John Dramani Mahama has announced the appointment of Madam Judith Adjobah Blay as the Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana National Gas Company Limited (Ghana Gas). This decision follows the resignation of Dr. Ben Asante, the former CEO of the company.

Madam Adjobah Blay’s appointment comes as part of a strategic move to strengthen the leadership of Ghana Gas and to ensure effective management in the energy sector. Additionally, Robert Kofi Lartey, who was previously the Director of Operations at Ghana Gas, has been promoted to Deputy Managing Director. This shift in leadership is seen as a step toward reinforcing the company’s operational efficiency and commitment to growth in the sector.

In a statement confirming the appointment, Mr. Richard Kirk-Mensah, the Head of Corporate Communications at Ghana Gas, emphasized that Madam Adjobah Blay’s new role marks an important milestone in the development of the country’s energy industry. Her extensive experience in leadership, policy development, and sustainable business practices positions her as a key figure in advancing Ghana’s energy agenda.

Prior to her appointment, Madam Adjobah Blay had an impressive track record of leadership in Ghana’s energy and petroleum sectors. She previously served as the Deputy Director of Contracts and Administration at the Petroleum Commission of Ghana. In this role, she was responsible for overseeing the participation of local suppliers in the upstream petroleum industry. Under her leadership, the Commission achieved an annual increase of 25% in local supplier participation, which is a significant contribution to the development of local content within the sector.

Before her tenure at the Petroleum Commission, Madam Adjobah Blay held the position of Manager of Community Relations, where she was instrumental in integrating Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles into the industry’s policies and strategies. Her focus on sustainable business practices and community relations helped ensure that the benefits of energy development were shared equitably with local communities.

Madam Adjobah Blay also has significant experience in procurement and supply chain management, having worked at Bui Power Authority, where she contributed to the smooth execution of large-scale energy projects. In addition, she served as a Project Coordinator at the Ministry of Energy, where she played a key role in implementing reforms in the country’s energy sector.

Madam Adjobah Blay is well-educated and highly qualified, holding an MA in International Transactions from George Mason University in the United States, an MSc in Procurement and Supply Chain Management from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), and a BA from the University of Ghana. She is also a chartered member of the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS-UK) and is currently pursuing an LLM in Public Procurement Law and Policy at the University of Nottingham.

Throughout her career, Madam Adjobah Blay has demonstrated a deep commitment to driving positive change within the energy sector. She has been involved in various sustainability initiatives and has served on the advisory board of the Western Regional Coastal Foundation, contributing to efforts aimed at preserving the region’s environmental and social wellbeing.

An alumna of Wesley Girls’ High School, Madam Adjobah Blay brings over two decades of experience in the energy sector to her new role. Her work has focused on strategic growth, regulatory compliance, and local content development, all of which are critical components of Ghana’s ongoing energy sector transformation.
