Prof. Mike Ocquaye Applauds FGBMFI’s Launch of Schools and Colleges Initiative

The Full Gospel Business Men’s Fellowship International (FGBMFI) in Ghana has introduced the Senior High Schools and Colleges Project (SCP), an initiative designed to mentor, empower, and transform young people within the country’s educational institutions. The project, which targets secondary and tertiary students, aims to guide them in reaching their full potential while providing support and fostering positive development.
At the official launch event in Accra, former Speaker of Parliament, Professor Mike Ocquaye, praised the SCP for its significant role in youth development. He stressed the importance of reaching out to young people early, especially given the challenges of modern life. “It is crucial to catch them young, train them, and guide them because times are indeed difficult,” Prof. Ocquaye emphasized. He pointed out that children today are facing a host of complex issues, such as being taught about gender identity at a young age, even before they are allowed to vote. This, he argued, is concerning and further demonstrates the urgency of providing youth with proper guidance and mentorship during their formative years.
Prof. Ocquaye also noted that for Ghana to move in the right direction, it is essential to inspire young people and engage them in positive activities. He expressed the belief that providing mentorship, leadership, and direction can help steer the youth toward productive and meaningful paths in life.
Ekow Egyir Dadson, Esq., the Director of the Schools and Colleges Directorate, highlighted the success of the project since its inception in 2018. According to Dadson, the SCP has already reached over 70 schools, impacting more than 100,000 students. He shared that the project began with the Presbyterian Boys’ Secondary School (PRESEC) Legon and has since expanded to include 74 schools across the country. Many of the students who have participated in the project have received personal mentorship and gone on to graduate from universities, demonstrating the long-term impact the initiative has had on their lives.
The SCP, which is driven by the vision of FGBMFI Ghana, is a bold outreach program that aims to lead young people to Christ while also preparing them for the future. The project offers a range of initiatives, including testimony sharing, mentorship, career guidance, entrepreneurship training, and counseling. These methods are intended to help students overcome challenges, build confidence, and acquire the skills needed to thrive in both their academic and personal lives.
During the launch, the National President of FGBMFI Ghana, Mr. Emmanuel Baba Mahama, introduced the SCP Manual. This guide is designed to assist the organization’s Zonal Family Chapters in Ghana as they adopt schools and colleges in their local communities. Mr. Baba Mahama expressed his enthusiasm about the project’s success, noting that the impact of the SCP has been clearly demonstrated through the testimonies of school heads, teachers, and students who have experienced its positive effects. He declared, “This project has come to stay,” emphasizing its long-term potential to make a difference.
The SCP aims to address a range of issues that are currently affecting students in Ghana’s Senior High Schools, Colleges, and Universities. Among these concerns are rising levels of addiction, indiscipline, poor academic performance, pornography, homosexuality, and broken homes, all of which negatively impact young people’s lives. These challenges have raised alarm among many parents and members of society, but FGBMFI Ghana believes there is hope for the youth. The SCP is seen as a lifeline for students who are in need of support, guidance, and mentorship, providing them with the tools to overcome obstacles and build brighter futures.
Mr. Baba Mahama also called for more volunteers and partners to join the initiative, recognizing that the success of the project relies on the collaboration of all stakeholders. The continued growth and expansion of the SCP will depend on the support of both local and international partners who are committed to shaping the next generation of responsible leaders and citizens. With the combined efforts of FGBMFI Ghana and its network of volunteers, the project is poised to have an even greater impact, offering hope and opportunities to many more students across the country.
As the SCP continues to grow, its influence will undoubtedly be felt throughout Ghana’s educational landscape, helping to transform the lives of young people and provide them with the guidance and support they need to succeed.
