Rebecca Akufo-Addo, the First Lady of Ghana, has expressed deep gratitude to the traders, particularly the market women, at Agbogbloshie in Accra for their consistent support of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) over the past eight years. During a visit to the busy market, she took the opportunity to acknowledge the vital role these traders have played in the country’s economic growth and in supporting the NPP’s policies.
Mrs. Akufo-Addo, while visiting the Agbogbloshie market, emphasized that the NPP is the only political party that has demonstrated the ability to govern Ghana effectively and bring substantial development to the people. She stressed that the NPP, under the leadership of her husband, President Akufo-Addo, has prioritized the welfare of all Ghanaians, and the positive impact of its policies is evident across the country.
The First Lady used the visit as an opportunity to rally support for the NPP ahead of the 2024 general elections. She urged the traders and all Ghanaians to vote overwhelmingly for the NPP, reminding them not to “make any mistake” when casting their ballots on December 7. Her message was clear: the NPP has brought tangible development to the country and deserves to continue in power for the good of the nation.
As the current administration nears the end of its term, Mrs. Akufo-Addo’s visit also served as a farewell to the traders and the Agbogbloshie community, marking her last public engagement before she and her husband exit the presidency. However, her visit was also aimed at encouraging strong support for the NPP’s presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, as well as for Abdul Manaf Nii Adjei Sowah, the party’s parliamentary candidate for the Odododiodoo Constituency.
Reflecting on the achievements of the NPP over the past eight years, Mrs. Akufo-Addo highlighted the government’s accomplishments in key areas such as infrastructure, healthcare, and education. She pointed out the numerous roads, schools, and hospitals that have been built or upgraded under the NPP administration, all of which have contributed to improving the lives of Ghanaians. She made a strong case for Dr. Bawumia, urging the electorate to vote for him as he is the only leader capable of continuing the progress made by the NPP government.
Mrs. Akufo-Addo praised Dr. Bawumia for his leadership and vision, describing him as a “God-sent” leader who has the skills, experience, and determination to move Ghana forward. She emphasized that the country cannot afford to let such a leader slip away, urging Ghanaians to give him the mandate to carry on the work that has already begun.
In addition to supporting Dr. Bawumia, Mrs. Akufo-Addo also took time to endorse Alhaji Manaf, the NPP’s parliamentary candidate for the Odododiodoo Constituency. She spoke highly of his contributions to the community, citing his efforts in providing essential services such as building seven boreholes and offering soft loans to traders in the area. These actions, she noted, reflected his commitment to improving the lives of the people in his constituency, even before holding public office.
Alhaji Manaf, in his remarks, echoed the call for voters to come out in large numbers to cast their votes for the NPP. He pointed out that Agbogbloshie is crucial to the outcome of the elections, as a large percentage of the constituency’s votes come from the market community. He urged the traders not to stay behind their stalls on election day, hoping that others would vote on their behalf, but to go out and vote for the NPP, ensuring that both the presidential and parliamentary candidates are supported with a massive turnout.
Alhaji Manaf, who is not yet an MP but has been actively involved in the community, assured the traders that, as a former trader himself, he understood their challenges and was committed to working for their welfare. He emphasized that his candidacy was driven by a desire to improve the livelihoods of Agbogbloshie’s traders and to bring more development to the constituency. He also echoed Mrs. Akufo-Addo’s call for voters to support Dr. Bawumia, highlighting that under his leadership, the constituency could expect even more development projects to enhance the lives of its residents.
Both Mrs. Akufo-Addo and Alhaji Manaf’s appeals underscored the importance of the upcoming elections for the future of Ghana. They emphasized the need for the NPP to continue its developmental agenda and for voters to take action by casting their votes for the party’s candidates. The NPP’s track record over the past eight years, they argued, proves that the party has been committed to improving the country’s infrastructure, healthcare, and economy, and it is essential to maintain this progress in the years ahead.
Mrs. Akufo-Addo’s visit to Agbogbloshie served as a powerful reminder of the NPP’s achievements and its vision for the future of Ghana. By thanking the traders for their support and encouraging them to vote massively for Dr. Bawumia and Alhaji Manaf, she set the stage for a strong showing in the upcoming elections. With a focus on continued development and progress, the NPP is urging voters to rally behind the party and ensure that Ghana’s growth story continues under their leadership.
