Sista Afia has expressed her frustration over being repeatedly overlooked by the Telecel Ghana Movie Awards (TGMA), despite her years of hard work in the music industry. Speaking in an interview with Graphic Showbiz on February 3, the “Jeje” singer shared her disappointment, recalling how her song “Jeje,” featuring Shatta Wale, failed to secure a nomination in 2017, even though it was a hit. This perceived snub continued until 2021 when she was finally recognized with nominations for “Corner Corner” featuring Kelvyn Boy and “Weather” featuring Medikal. However, after the release of “Asuoden” in 2022, which didn’t earn any nominations, Sista Afia began to question the fairness of the awards.

“I’ve never been content with the few nominations I’ve received from TGMA,” she explained. “When ‘Jeje’ came out, it was huge, but I didn’t get any recognition. My only real acknowledgment came in 2021, and since then, nothing. It’s been concerning to me.”

Despite past disappointments, Sista Afia remains optimistic about this year’s awards and is hoping to secure nominations in categories like Highlife Song of the Year, Highlife Artiste of the Year, and Collaboration of the Year.

In addition to her career, Sista Afia emphasized the importance of musicians giving back to their communities. She believes that artists have a responsibility to use their platforms for social good, whether by donating resources to schools or supporting those in need.

“As musicians, we have the power to make a difference, and we should come together to help society in various ways,” she said. “We can help schools in need, support disabled children, or aid vulnerable groups. It’s not just about writing songs at home; we must actively work to create positive change. Even small contributions can make a big impact.”
