Kissi Agyebeng, Ghana’s Special Prosecutor, will address the issue of corruption and state capture at the 5th Annual Constitution Day Public Lecture, organized by the OneGhana Movement in partnership with the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) Law School. This important lecture is set to take place on Friday, February 28, 2025.

The Constitution Day Public Lecture has become a prominent event for reflecting on Ghana’s democratic journey and evaluating its constitutional progress. It serves as a key platform to discuss the challenges the country faces in governance, as well as the opportunities for strengthening democratic structures. This year, the lecture will focus on corruption and state capture, two critical issues that are seen as significant impediments to national development.

Under the theme “A Few Good Men: Suppressing and Repressing Corruption and State Capture in Aid of Development,” Special Prosecutor Agyebeng will explore how these issues undermine Ghana’s efforts towards economic and political progress. The lecture will be followed by an insightful review by Professor H. Kwesi Prempeh, the Executive Director of the Centre for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana), who is expected to provide an in-depth analysis of Agyebeng’s points.

The annual Constitution Day Lecture is more than just an academic discussion; it is an important event for identifying weaknesses within the country’s governance systems. It plays a key role in fostering public dialogue on how Ghana can implement practical reforms to strengthen its democratic processes and ensure more effective governance. This year’s discussion will particularly focus on the pressing issue of corruption and the practice of state capture, which continue to pose challenges to the country’s ability to develop and prosper.

In addition to addressing the current challenges, the lecture aims to propose actionable strategies to combat corruption, enhance transparency, and foster accountability. These strategies are intended to help chart a path toward sustainable development and better governance for the future. With Agyebeng’s expertise and the contributions from Professor Prempeh, the lecture promises to offer valuable insights into the complex issues of corruption and state capture while suggesting meaningful solutions to these enduring problems.
