Takoradi Technical University (TTU) in the Western Region officially welcomed 8,933 fresh students for the 2025 academic year during a vibrant matriculation ceremony held last Friday. The new students have been admitted into a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs, marking the beginning of their academic journeys at one of Ghana’s leading technical institutions.

The incoming students will be pursuing various academic tracks, including Master of Technology, Bachelor of Technology, Higher National Diploma (HND), and Diploma programs across multiple faculties. These faculties include the Faculty of Applied Sciences, Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Built and Natural Environment, Faculty of Health and Allied Sciences, Faculty of Business Studies, and the Institute of Distance and Continuing Education (IDCE). Additionally, the Faculty of Applied Arts and Technology, Centre for Languages and Liberal Studies (CELLIBS), and the School of Graduate Studies also welcomed students into their respective programs.

Admissions Statistics and Breakdown

Vice-Chancellor Reverend Professor John Frank Eshun shared valuable insights into the admissions process, revealing that TTU had received a total of 10,717 applications. Out of these, 5,982 male students (67%) and 2,946 female students (33%) were selected for admission. Rev. Prof. Eshun also emphasized that a significant portion of the admissions—approximately 60%—were in TVET-related programs, aligning with the university’s mission to promote technical and vocational education and training. This highlights the institution’s focus on equipping students with practical skills and knowledge to thrive in a rapidly changing job market.

During his address, Rev. Prof. Eshun congratulated the new students on their acceptance into the university and encouraged them to make the most of the academic and personal growth opportunities available at TTU. “TTU is committed to creating an environment that fosters academic excellence and provides global exposure. I urge you to work diligently, develop critical thinking skills, and focus on personal growth. You were selected from a pool of many applicants, and now is the time to demonstrate your commitment to your studies and prove that you belong here. Take full advantage of the resources and career services offered by the university to enhance your experience,” he stated.

Embracing TTU’s Core Values

Rev. Prof. Eshun also urged the students to adopt and embody the core values of Takoradi Technical University: commitment, integrity, teamwork, excellence, and diversity. He emphasized that these values would play a crucial role in shaping their personal development while contributing to the overall reputation of the university. “As you embark on this journey, remember the core values of TTU—commitment, integrity, teamwork, excellence, and diversity. Living by these principles will not only help you grow as individuals but also enhance the reputation of this institution. Treat your peers and faculty with respect, and appreciate the diverse community that makes us stronger,” he advised.

Zero-Tolerance for Misconduct

The Vice-Chancellor reiterated the university’s zero-tolerance policy toward misconduct, particularly sexual harassment, and encouraged students to report any such incidents through TTU’s dedicated campus hotlines. He also cautioned students against engaging in behaviors that could derail their academic and personal success. “I urge you to find a balance between your academic responsibilities and positive social activities. Be mindful of the people you associate with, and avoid dangerous behaviors such as drug abuse, alcoholism, promiscuity, and occultism, as these could result in your expulsion. Stay safe and avoid risky activities, such as swimming at the beach. Take personal responsibility, especially when it comes to avoiding examination malpractice. Your GPA begins now—attend your lectures regularly, rest well, seek guidance, and appreciate the people who have helped you along the way,” Rev. Prof. Eshun warned.

Promoting Quality Education and Feedback

Professor Ing. Ebenezer Boakye, Director of TTU’s Quality Assurance, addressed the students about the importance of providing feedback on their lecturers. He reassured them that the evaluations would be conducted anonymously and encouraged students to participate without fear of any reprisal. This feedback mechanism ensures that the university continuously improves its educational standards and fosters an environment of transparency and accountability.

In conclusion, the matriculation ceremony marked a significant milestone for the 8,933 new students, who are now part of Takoradi Technical University’s dynamic academic community. As they embark on their educational journey, they are encouraged to uphold the university’s values of excellence, integrity, and personal development, ensuring they make the most of the opportunities available to them. TTU remains committed to providing a world-class education that prepares students for the challenges of the modern workforce while fostering a culture of respect, responsibility, and community.
