Freddie Blay, the former Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has defended the ongoing ‘Thank You’ tour, emphasizing its significance in fostering unity within the party and reigniting grassroots support after the 2024 elections.

While some party members have expressed concerns that the tour, led by Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, NPP’s flagbearer, could be widening divisions, Blay maintains that these concerns are misplaced. He believes that the tour is essential to strengthen the party’s base and rebuild unity, particularly after a major electoral campaign.

In an interview on Channel One Newsroom on April 29, Blay clarified that the tour is not merely about thanking supporters but is a calculated effort to re-engage and motivate party members. He argued that it offers a vital opportunity to connect with supporters, revitalize enthusiasm, and address any lingering concerns from the election period.

“There is nothing wrong with it. In fact, it energises the base, stimulates the supporters, and allows for further communication. At times, we can ask more questions, and if it’s convenient, they’ll share their thoughts,” Blay explained.

Blay also responded to critiques that such engagement should have happened before the election. He stated that the party’s priority now should be healing, cohesion, and maintaining momentum, not simply adhering to an electoral timeline.

“Anyone who thinks this should have been done before the elections is overly focused on elections alone. The party’s immediate task is to unite, energize, and strengthen the supporters, and the ‘Thank You’ tour is playing a critical role in achieving that,” he added.

His comments highlight an ongoing debate within the NPP about the party’s future direction. As the party navigates its post-election period and seeks to regroup, Blay’s perspective stresses the importance of mending internal divisions and reinforcing connections with the party’s supporters as part of its long-term strategy for success.

The ‘Thank You’ tour, which has drawn mixed reactions, continues to be a key component of the NPP’s efforts to re-establish solidarity within the party, ensuring that its foundation remains strong as it prepares for future electoral battles.
