The fund established to support the children of the victims of the August 6 helicopter crash has now reached GH¢2.3 million.

The Children’s Support Fund, established to assist the children of those who lost their lives in the tragic helicopter crash on August 6, has so far raised GH¢2.315 million, according to a recent announcement from the Presidency.
This fund was officially launched by President John Dramani Mahama on August 15, 2025, with the primary purpose of providing long-term welfare, including education and care, for the children left behind by the victims of the accident.
In a public statement dated August 19, 2025, the Presidency revealed that Stanbic Bank Ghana made the initial significant contribution of GH¢500,000 to kick-start the fundraising efforts. The statement, signed by Dr. Valerie Sawyerr, Senior Presidential Advisor on Governmental Affairs and Coordinator of the Fund, also acknowledged a range of corporate donors who have contributed to the cause.
The list of organizations supporting the fund includes well-known companies such as Procus GH Limited, GB Foods Ghana, Sunda FM Manufacturing Ltd, Sage Distribution Ltd, Quantum Oil Terminals, Quantum LPG Logistics Ltd, Newgas Cylinder Ltd, and Quantum Terminals PLC.
Dr. Sawyerr assured the public that transparency remains a key priority, stating that a full and updated list of donors would be published weekly. This ongoing disclosure aims to build trust and encourage more contributions from individuals and organizations willing to support the children affected by the crash.
Donations to the fund can be made in both Ghana cedis and US dollars through designated accounts held at Stanbic Bank Ghana. Additionally, cheques and bank drafts can be issued payable to “Children Support Fund 6825” for those who prefer to donate via traditional banking instruments.
The Presidency expressed confidence that the fund, which currently stands at GH¢2.315 million, will continue to increase over time as more donors join the effort to provide support. The funds will be instrumental in offering the children not only immediate relief but also ongoing financial assistance to secure their education and general well-being.
By setting up the Children’s Support Fund, the government underscores its commitment to social responsibility and child welfare, recognizing that the impact of the tragedy extends beyond immediate grief to long-term challenges for the survivors.
As the fund continues to grow, it is expected to provide critical support, including scholarships, counseling, and basic needs assistance, to help these children overcome the hardships brought on by the disaster.
The initiative serves as a rallying point for public and private sector stakeholders to come together in a unified effort to care for the most vulnerable victims of the accident—the children who represent the future.
