Truce Breaks Down in Suwayda, Syria as Israel Warns of Military Response

Clashes have erupted again in the southern Syrian city of Suwayda between Druze militias and government forces, effectively ending the recently declared ceasefire. The violence escalated despite efforts to halt hostilities, as Israel intensified its military strikes on Syrian targets and warned of potential further actions if Syrian forces do not withdraw.
The renewed fighting in this mainly Druze-populated area resumed on Wednesday, defying the Syrian government’s announcement of a ceasefire just the previous evening. Syria’s Ministry of Defence accused unauthorized armed groups of breaking the truce by attacking government soldiers. The ministry emphasized that the government troops responded in self-defense while following strict rules of engagement designed to protect civilians amid the conflict.
