Updated EC Results Show President Mahama Leading with 56.42%, Ablekuma North Results Pending

The Electoral Commission (EC) has provided an updated count of the 2024 presidential election results, reaffirming that former President John Dramani Mahama emerged victorious with 56.42% of the vote, based on data from 275 out of 276 constituencies.
The revised figures show that President Mahama, the candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), received a total of 6,591,790 votes, which translates to 56.42% of the votes cast. His closest competitor, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), received 4,877,611 votes, or 41.75% of the total.
The EC issued an official release, signed by Chairperson Jean Mensa, confirming that the results remain consistent with the previous announcement made on December 9, 2024. Mahama was declared the winner of the presidential race, based on the updated data.
The updated tally follows the EC’s earlier announcement, which was based on results from 267 constituencies. The only remaining constituency for which results are still pending is Ablekuma North in the Greater Accra Region, which has 121,269 registered voters. The full results are expected once this constituency’s collation is completed.
The revised numbers also include votes from other candidates. Independent candidate Nana Kwame Bediako, popularly known as “Cheddar,” garnered 88,944 votes, accounting for 0.76% of the total valid votes. Another independent contender, Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen, secured 32,457 votes, or 0.28% of the vote. Other independent candidates, including Nana Akosua Frimpomaa of the Convention People’s Party (CPP), Hassan Ayariga of the All People’s Party (APC), and Dr. Daniel Augustus Lartey of the Great Consolidated Popular Party (GCPP), received between 17,000 to 24,000 votes, with each securing less than 0.2% of the total votes cast.
Independent candidates Kofi Koranteng and George Twum-Barima-Adu also received small shares of the vote, with totals of 3,415 and 3,182 votes, respectively. A notable mention is the late Akua Donkor, who remained on the ballot despite her passing in October 2024, but she received no votes, according to the EC’s updated data.
The total number of valid votes cast stood at 11,683,483, with 247,937 votes being rejected. The voter turnout for the 275 constituencies was reported to be 63.97%, based on the 18,774,195 registered voters in those areas.
In the updated results, the EC emphasized that despite the additional data from the 275 constituencies, the outcome of the election remained unchanged. The update followed the EC’s initial release on December 9, 2024, where Mahama had already been declared the winner, having secured 6,328,397 votes (56.55% of the valid votes), compared to Dr. Bawumia’s 4,657,304 votes (41.61%).
At that time, the EC had also clarified that, even if Dr. Bawumia had won all the outstanding votes from the remaining nine constituencies, he would not have been able to surpass the 50% plus one vote threshold required to win the presidency.
The total number of votes cast in the 267 constituencies, as of the initial announcement, was 11,430,531, with a voter turnout of 60.9%. The final update has only served to confirm Mahama’s commanding lead in the race and solidify his win in the 2024 presidential election.
As the election results continue to unfold, the updated figures have drawn attention to the significance of Mahama’s victory, highlighting the substantial support he received from across the country. The outcome is now officially cemented, with Mahama securing a clear mandate to serve as the President of Ghana for the upcoming term.
