WAEC denies December 29 results release date

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has addressed circulating claims regarding the release of exam results on December 29th, stating that this information is inaccurate. John Kapi, WAEC’s Director of Public Affairs, has described the Education Minister’s assertion about the release date as “factually incorrect.”

In an interview with Starr FM, Kapi clarified that WAEC had not issued any official statement confirming a December 29th release date for the results. He emphasized that the information circulating online, including the Minister’s public remarks, was erroneous. According to Kapi, the Education Minister, Dr. Osei Yaw Adutwum, had visited WAEC’s office, where he was shown equipment that was either broken or operating at less than full capacity, as well as a backlog of objective answer sheets awaiting scanning. However, Kapi stressed that no formal discussions took place during the visit regarding a specific timeline for releasing the results or the status of the scanning process.

Kapi further explained that, after the visit, the Minister spoke to the media and announced that WAEC had indicated the results would be released by December 28th or 29th. However, Kapi clarified that WAEC had not made any such statement. He expressed frustration, calling the misinformation scandalous, particularly as it added to the anxiety of students and parents awaiting their results. “There was no formal meeting like, ‘Okay, let’s sit down and discuss the way forward. What do we do? When are they going to fix the machines? When will you be able to complete this?’ Nothing of that sort happened,” Kapi stated.

This clarification comes at a time when confusion and uncertainty have been growing among students and their families, especially as they anxiously wait for their exam results. The false December 29th release date had been widely circulated online, creating unnecessary stress for those expecting the results. Kapi urged the public to ignore the unverified date and advised them to rely only on official communications from WAEC for the accurate release timeline.

WAEC, as a non-profit organization responsible for administering standardized examinations in member countries across West Africa, has reassured the public that any announcements regarding exam results will be made through official channels. Kapi emphasized the importance of relying on WAEC’s official website and social media platforms for accurate updates. These channels will be used to communicate the confirmed results release date when it is determined.

In the meantime, Kapi’s comments reflect WAEC’s ongoing commitment to transparency and the correct dissemination of information. While there is no official release date yet, the Council has made it clear that it will ensure that the public is informed in a timely and accurate manner once the results are ready. Kapi’s remarks have helped dispel the confusion surrounding the false December 29th claim and reinforced the importance of trusting only official sources for such critical information.

The delay in the release of the results has been attributed to logistical challenges, including the need for further processing and the scanning of a large volume of objective answer sheets. This process is vital for ensuring that the results are accurately compiled and validated before being made public. As WAEC works to finalize the results, the Council has urged patience from students and parents, stressing that the results will be released as soon as all procedures are completed.

It is important to note that WAEC’s exams play a critical role in the academic progression of students across West Africa. The results determine their eligibility for further education and career opportunities. Therefore, the timing and accuracy of the results are of great importance to both the students and the broader educational community.

As the situation unfolds, students and parents are encouraged to keep an eye on WAEC’s official communication platforms for the latest information. With WAEC working diligently to finalize the results, the public can expect timely updates once the results are ready for release. Meanwhile, the false claims regarding the December 29th release date should be disregarded to avoid further confusion.
