The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has officially opened the registration process for the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination for Private Candidates (WASSCE PC1). Interested students have until Wednesday, January 8, 2025, to complete their registration. The examination, which provides an opportunity for students to improve their grades, is scheduled to take place from January 24 to February 15, 2025.

John Kapi, the Head of Public Affairs at WAEC, discussed the program on JoyNews’ AM Show on December 31, 2024. He explained that WASSCE PC1 is intended to benefit students who wish to retake one or two subjects without waiting for an entire year. This initiative allows candidates to accelerate their academic progress by retaking exams in a timely manner, rather than delaying their studies until the next academic cycle.

“Students who check their WASSCE results and find that they need to resit a few subjects can register online through the WAEC website or visit accredited WAEC internet cafés. They have until January 8 to complete the registration process,” Mr. Kapi explained. The exams for this session will be conducted primarily in regional capitals due to the expected lower number of candidates.

To assist candidates in their preparation, WAEC has committed to providing chief examiners’ reports prior to the exams. These reports will offer valuable insights into common mistakes students make and provide suggestions for how to improve their performance. “We have widely promoted this program through banners, our website, and our results checker platform, ensuring that both students and parents are well-informed about the initiative,” Mr. Kapi added.

The WASSCE PC1 is open to students who have had their results canceled due to malpractice, provided they have not been banned from participating in future examinations. Additionally, the program is designed to help students quickly improve their grades to meet the admission requirements for the next academic cycle. This provides a timely alternative for those looking to progress academically without having to wait a full year.

For those interested in registering for the examination, prospective candidates must visit the WAEC website, where detailed instructions on the registration process are available. Students can register either online or at WAEC-accredited internet cafés. The council is hopeful that this initiative will allow students to improve their academic performance and ensure they are able to move forward in their education without unnecessary delays.

“This program will enable candidates to enhance their grades and qualify for the next cycle of admissions, helping them avoid the setback of waiting another year to sit for exams,” Mr. Kapi noted. He emphasized that WAEC’s goal is to provide students with a quick and effective way to improve their academic standing and fulfill their educational goals.

With the registration deadline fast approaching, WAEC is encouraging all eligible candidates to take advantage of this unique opportunity. The WASSCE PC1 provides a chance for students to accelerate their academic progress and better prepare for their future, without the extended wait typically associated with resitting exams. The registration period ends on January 8, 2025, so prospective candidates are urged to complete their registration as soon as possible.

WAEC’s WASSCE PC1 is a valuable program for students looking to retake one or two subjects in the 2025 academic year. By providing an accelerated opportunity to resit exams and improve grades, WAEC aims to help students continue their academic journey without unnecessary delays. With the support of detailed examiners’ reports and the convenience of online registration, this initiative offers a timely and accessible solution for students looking to progress in their education.
